This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, February 22nd 2007.
A GYRFALCON was still west of Hastings in Dakota County on the 21st.
Check along 180th Street just east of U.S. Highway 52.
COMMON LOONS were reported on Black Dog Lake in Dakota County on the
17th. This is more than a month earlier than the typical spring arrival
date of March 27th.
Ben Fritchman found a SNOWY OWL in Wilkin County on the 16th. The bird
was along the north side of I-94 just over a quarter of a mile west of
mile marker 30.
On the 20, the NORTHERN HAWK OWL was still present north of Duluth on
the east side of St. Louis County Road 4, about a quarter of a mile
north of its junction with Martin Road. And on the 17th, two Northern
Hawk Owls were in Beltrami County at mile marker 49 of state highway 72.
On the 17th, a GREAT GRAY OWL was seen once again along the Hedbom
Logging Trail in eastern Aitkin County, but I have no specific location.
A pair of CAROLINA WRENS is frequenting the Golden Valley, Hennepin
County, home at 6701 Idaho Avenue North. The best time to visit is
mid-morning. Please park on the street, not in the driveway.
A VARIED THRUSH is still being seen near the intersection of Edgcumbe
and Eleanor Streets in St. Paul.
