This is the birding hotline report of the Madison
Audubon Society for Saturday, September 17th.

Up to 4 NELSON’S SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS have been
reported at 9 Springs Natural Area since this
past Wednesday and through today, Saturday. To
search for the sparrows, walk to the east-most
pond, turn north, and then work your way back
west along the path. The birds may be hard to
find, some birders having taken up to an hour to
locate them, so patience is a must.

Other species reported at 9 Springs this past
week include COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, PALM WARBLER,
SONG SPARROW, SWAMP SPARROW, GREAT EGRET, and SANDHILL CRANE.

Pheasant Branch Conservancy, both the Dane County
and City of Middleton portions, have been
productive of warblers this past week,
particularly the county portion. Reports of
warblers, including NORTHER WATERTHRUSH and
WILSON’S WARBLER have also come from the Honeeum area of the UW Arboretum.
