EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -
This is the Voice of Audubon for Monday, March 5.
The TOWNSEND'S WARBLER that is over-wintering at 6 Laurel Street in
Cambridge was last reported on Thursday.
A seawatch at Andrew's Point in Rockport during the storm on Friday
produced
90 NORTHERN FULMARS, 438 NORTHERN GANNETS, 2170 BLACK-
LEGGED KITTIWAKES, 29 COMMON MURRES, 3 THICK-BILLED
MURRES, 3760 RAZORBILLS, and roughly 1000 unidentified large alcids.
A PACIFIC LOON was seen at the Granite Pier in Rockport yesterday,
and other
weekend reports from various points around Cape Ann included a
REDHEAD, a
KING EIDER, roughly 60 HARLEQUIN DUCKS, 1 BARROW'S GOLDENEYE,
the EARED GREBE at Niles Beach in East Gloucester, 1 PEREGRINE
FALCON, 40 PURPLE SANDPIPERS, 3 BLACK-HEADED GULLS, 5
ICELAND GULLS, and 2 GLAUCOUS GULLS.
Reports from the Newburyport/Salisbury/Plum Island area included 11
BALD
EAGLES, 6 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 6 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, 1
PEREGRINE FALCON, 3 KILLDEER, 1 GLAUCOUS GULL, 2 COMMON
MURRES, 3 SNOWY OWLS, 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS, 1 NORTHERN
SHRIKE, 1 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, 125 RED-WINGED BLACK-
BIRDS, and 23 COMMON GRACKLES.
Seen at Race Point in Provincetown were 320 RED-THROATED LOONS,
80 NORTHERN GANNETS, roughly 500 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS,
1150 SANDERLINGS, 650 DUNLIN, 5 ICELAND GULLS, 15 BLACK-
LEGGED KITTIWAKES, 3 COMMON MURRES, 150 RAZORBILLS, and
roughly 7000 unidentified large alcids, and at various points along
the Lee and
Coles Rivers in Swansea and Somerset there were 2 EURASIAN WIGEON,
438 AMERICAN WIGEON, 14 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 834 GREATER
SCAUP, 2 BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, 3 AMERICAN COOTS, 1 KILLDEER,
1 FISH CROW, 1 BROWN THRASHER, and 65 COMMON GRACKLES.
Reports from the Cumberland Farm fields in Middleboro included 5
KILLDEER,
2 WILSON'S SNIPE, 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 8 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS,
5 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 2 AMERICAN KESTRELS, 120 HORNED
LARKS, 1 AMERICAN PIPIT, 24 EASTERN MEADOWLARKS, 6 COMMON
GRACKLES, and 30 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, and miscellaneous
reports from the weekend included a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE
in Fairhaven, an early LESSER YELLOWLEGS in Swansea, 2 BLUE-WINGED
TEAL in Ipswich, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK in Essex, 2 REDHEADS in
Groveland, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK in Millbury, 2 COMMON RAVENS
in Carlisle, 2 KILLDEER in Concord, 2 KILLDEER and an EASTERN
MEADOWLARK at the Boston Nature Center in Mattapan, a NORTHERN
SHRIKE at Mass Audubon's Broadmoor Sanctuary in Natick, 2 COMMON
RAVENS in Blackstone, 3 KILLDEER in North Attleboro, displaying
AMERICAN WOODCOCKS in Mattapoisett and Scituate, 10 REDHEADS
at Pilgrim Lake in Truro, 10,000 COMMON EIDERS, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE,
and 37 AMERICAN COOTS at Nantucket, an OSPREY and a LONG-EARED
OWL at the Daniel Webster Sanctuary in Marshfield, 2 OSPREYS in
Orleans, and single TREE SWALLOWS in Barnstable and Falmouth.
