From last week: on 2/24 in Harmar Township, 1 FOX SPARROW (JV).
At the Point in Pittsburgh on 2/26 through 2/28, 1 third-winter GLAUCOUS
GULL was present among over 3,500 gulls (DW, GM, SK). On 2/27, a RED-NECKED
GREBE was also seen here (reported by Scott Kinzey to GM), and 2 GREAT
BLACK-BACKED GULLS, 1 first-winter GLAUCOUS GULL (DY). Other birds seen
here and nearby areas on 2/27 included 16 AMERICAN WIGEON, 1 American Coot,
1 REDHEAD, 1 GADWALL, 4 CANVASBACKS, 13 BUFFLEHEADS, 6 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 6
SCAUP SP., 2 COMMON MERGANSERS, 1 RED-BREASTED MERGANSER and possibly 40
more flyovers, 2 TUNDRA SWANS (SK). From 2/28-3/1 and 3/4, a RED-NECKED
GREBE was still present (MV, DY, GM, MF). On 3/3, 4 CANVASBACKS (DY). On
3/4, 5 CANVASBACKS, 1 BUFFLEHEAD (MV). On the Ohio River near the Science
Center on 3/3, pair of CANVASBACKS (SG).
On 2/26 in McKees Rocks, 6 CANVASBACKS, 1 REDHEAD, 1 American Coot (MV).
At Emsworth Dam on 2/26, 9 CANVASBACKS, 8 COMMON GOLDENEYES; on 3/4, 10
CANVASBACKS, 3 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 3 LESSER SCAUP (MV).
In Etna on 2/27, 2 Wood Ducks, 5 AMERICAN WIGEON, 1 RING-NECKED DUCK, 4
COMMON GOLDENEYES, 1 CANVASBACK, 14 LESSER SCAUP; on 2/28, 2 Wood Ducks, 9
AMERICAN WIGEON, 2 CANVASBACKS, 1 RING-NECKED DUCK, 6 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 26
mixed SCAUP SP.; on 3/1, 10 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 7 SCAUP SP., 2 CANVASBACKS, 1
Killdeer; on 3/3, 1 RED-NECKED GREBE, 10 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 4 SCAUP SP., 2

On 2/27 in Oakland, 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS (AB).
At Lock & Dam #2 in Highland Park on 2/27, 1 third-winter GLAUCOUS GULL; on
3/3, 1 Turkey Vulture, 3 Common Grackles (DY).
In Verona on 2/27, sightings included 2 HORNED GREBES, ~5 COMMON MERGANSERS,
and many gulls (AH).
On 2/28 in Blawnox, 2 Wood Ducks, 4 AMERICAN WIGEON, 7 LESSER SCAUP, 2
BUFFLEHEADS, 6 CANVASBACKS, 15 COMMON MERGANSERS (DY).
At Lock & Dam #3 in Cheswick on 2/28, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 3 COMMON
MERGANSERS; at Reid's Marina in Cheswick, 4 AMERICAN WIGEON, 17 CANVASBACKS,
3 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 24 SCAUP SP., 3 BUFFLEHEADS (DY).
On 3/1 in Harmar Township, 6 Common Grackles (JV).
In Beechwood on 3/2, 1 Turkey Vulture (BSh).
On 3/3 in Duck Hollow, 2 COMMON MERGANSERS, 15 RING-NECKED DUCKS (DY).
On 3/3 in an unspecified location, 1 probable CALIFORNIA GULL (DW).
At the Imperial Grasslands on 3/3, 6 Killdeer, 1 WILSON'S SNIPE, 1 Horned
Lark, 1 male NORTHERN HARRIER, Common Grackles, Turkey Vultures (MF); on
3/4, 3 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 male NORTHERN HARRIER (MV).
On 3/4 at Brunot's Island, 10 CANVASBACKS, 8 BUFFLEHEADS, 2 Hooded
Mergansers, 1 COMMON GOLDENEYE, 1 Double-crested Cormorant (MV).
ARMSTRONG COUNTY:
Near Kittanning on 2/26, 1 Turkey Vulture (AB).
BEAVER COUNTY:
On 2/27 in Rochester, 5 HORNED GREBES, 4 Hooded Mergansers, 4 BUFFLEHEADS, 1
drake RING-NECKED DUCK, 8 SCAUP SP., 4 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, and several
hundred gulls (MV). On 3/1, 3 drake CANVASBACKS, 1 REDHEAD, 3 GREATER SCAUP,
8 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 4 BUFFLEHEADS, 5 Hooded Mergansers; on 3/2, 5 LESSER
SCAUP, 2 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 3 Wood Ducks, 2 AMERICAN WIGEON, 1 American Coot
(MV). On 3/4, 1 first-winter ICELAND GULL flew past Rochester (GM).
At Riverfront Park on 2/27, 1 HORNED GREBE, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 1 COMMON
GOLDENEYE (MV).
On 3/3 in Independence Township, 21 Turkey Vultures (MV).
On 3/3 at Raccoon Creek Wildflower Reserve, sightings included a pair of
Wood Ducks, 1 AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, 1 drake RING-NECKED DUCK (MV).
On 3/2 at Independence Marsh, 200 Red-winged Blackbirds, 17 Killdeer; on
3/3, 8 Hooded Mergansers (MV).
On 3/2 at Little Blue Lake, 15 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 11 AMERICAN WIGEON, 6
GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 10 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 6 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 2 BALD
EAGLES; on 3/4, 13 AMERICAN WIGEON, 5 COMMON GOLDENEYES (MV).
At Montgomery Dam on 3/4, 1 BALD EAGLE (GM).
BUTLER COUNTY:
At Glade Dam Lake on 3/3, sightings included 2 BALD EAGLES, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK, Killdeer, Red-winged Blackbirds (SG).
CLARION COUNTY:
In Knox on 2/25, 1 Turkey Vulture (ML).
ERIE COUNTY:
On 2/27 in Union City, 1 light-morph ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK (JM).
At the Erie landfill on 2/27, 1 GLAUCOUS GULL; on 3/2, 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED
GULL, 1 GLAUCOUS GULL (JM).
In Edinboro on 2/28, 1 PINE SISKIN (JM).
On 3/1 in Millcreek Township, 1 Northern Mockingbird (JM).
On 3/3 in Harborcreek Township, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, BUFFLEHEADS, Hooded
Mergansers, RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS (CK).
At Six-mile Creek on 3/3, 1 RED-NECKED GREBE, 3 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS (CK).
Along the lakefront on 3/3, several BLACK-BACKED GULL SP. were observed
flying (CK).
In Northeast Township on 3/3, 1 adult and 1 immature BALD EAGLE (CK).
FAYETTE COUNTY:
At Deer Lake on 3/2, 7 Wood Ducks (WS).
On 3/2 at On 3/2 at Indian Creek Reservoir, 6 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 6 Hooded
Mergansers, 4 COMMON MERGANSERS, COMMON GOLDENEYE (WS).
On 3/4 along the Youghiogheny River (here and in Somerset County), sightings
included 5 Hooded Mergansers, 1 RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, 4 COMMON MERGANSERS,
7 BUFFLEHEADS, 27 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 3 SCAUP SP., 2 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 8
RING-NECKED DUCKS (PW).
FOREST COUNTY:
Along the Allegheny River in Tionesta on 2/27, sightings included 1 immature
BALD EAGLE, 1 AMERICAN WIGEON, 3 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 1 TUNDRA SWAN, COMMON
MERGANSERS (FM).
On 3/2 at the Tionesta Fish Hatchery, 1 Hooded Merganser, 3 RING-NECKED
DUCKS (FM).
On 3/2 in Tionesta at a feeder, 2 Red-winged Blackbirds (FM).
INDIANA COUNTY:
In Clarksburg on 2/26 and 3/4, Common Grackle, Red-winged Blackbirds; also
on 3/4, 2 Turkey Vultures, Killdeer (MC).
LAWRENCE COUNTY:
On 3/3 in an unspecified location, 1 TREE SWALLOW, Red-winged Blackbirds,
Brown-headed Cowbird, RUSTY BLACKBIRD (RS).
On 3/3 over Golf Course Road, 2 flyover SANDHILL CRANES (RS).
At the Lake Road extension on 3/3, 10-12 SNOW BUNTINGS (RS).
SOMERSET COUNTY:
Along the Youghiogheny River on 3/3, sightings included 7 Hooded Mergansers,
13 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, 6 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 1 AMERICAN WIGEON, 1 SCAUP
SP., 1 AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, 2 American Coots; on 3/4 (here and in Fayette
County), sightings included 5 Hooded Mergansers, 1 RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, 4
COMMON MERGANSERS, 7 BUFFLEHEADS, 27 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 3 SCAUP SP., 2
AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 8 RING-NECKED DUCKS (PW).
In an unspecified location on 3/3, RUSTY BLACKBIRDS (PW).
WARREN COUNTY:
On 2/25 in Mead Township, 1 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL (reported to CK).
WASHINGTON COUNTY:
From late January: a very late report of an adult BALD EAGLE seen flying
around Coal Center near the Monongahela River, a very rare sighting for this
township or even county (BSe).
On 2/26 at the Hahn Road AMD pond, 17 CANVASBACKS, 5 REDHEADS, 1 RING-NECKED
DUCK, 1 BUFFLEHEAD, 3 American Coots; on 2/28, 17-19 CANVASBACKS, 6
REDHEADS, 12 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 3 American Coots (MV, RT). Also on 2/28, 2
BUFFLEHEADS, 2 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 1 LESSER SCAUP (RT). On 3/1, 8
RING-NECKED DUCKS, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 19 CANVASBACKS, 4 American Coots
(RT). On 3/2, sightings included 2 BUFFLEHEADS, 3 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 5
CANVASBACKS (RT). On 3/3, 6 CANVASBACKS, 2 REDHEADS, 4 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 1
AMERICAN WIGEON, 4 American Coots (MV).
On 3/1 in Buffalo Creek IBA #80 area, 2 pairs of Hooded Mergansers, 1 Turkey
Vulture (LC).
At Canonsburg Lake on 3/2, CANVASBACK, 2 REDHEADS, 3 Hooded Mergansers (RT);
on 3/3, 5 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 3 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 NORTHERN SHOVELER, 2
LESSER SCAUP, 8 Hooded Mergansers, 1 Killdeer (MV).
At the Van Emman pond on 3/3, 7 Wood Ducks (MV).
on 3/3 at Boone Reservoir, 4 Hooded Mergansers (MV).
On 3/3 at Washington Reservoir #4, 2 AMERICAN WIGEON, 3 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 1
American Coot (MV).
At Washington Cemetery on 3/3, 1 hen NORTHERN PINTAIL, 5 RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCHES (MV).
On 3/4 in Coal Center, a flock of over 100 American Robins arrived and fed
in the 4-5 small backyards along Pike Run Creek for only about 10-15 minutes
(AT).
At a pond in northern Washington County on 3/4, 4 WILSON'S SNIPE (MV).
WESTMORELAND COUNTY:
Two GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were present with some Canada Geese at Twin
Lakes County Park on 2/27 (reported to LH) and 2/28 (LH).
At Loyalhanna Lake on 3/3, 50+ COMMON MERGANSERS, 2 BALD EAGLES (TV).
In Rostraver Township on 3/3, 50-100 Red-winged Blackbirds (MB).
On 3/2 at Donegal Lake, sightings included 2 COMMON MERGANSERS, 9
RING-NECKED DUCKS (WS); on 3/4, 3 BUFFLEHEADS, 5 Killdeer (DB).
At a small pond on route 982 near Laurelville on 3/4, 20 Hooded Mergansers (DB).
At Bridgeport on 3/4, sightings included 2 Hooded Mergansers (DB).
