This is the Voice of Audubon for Monday, March 12.
The TOWNSEND'S WARBLER that is over-wintering at 6 Laurel Street in
Cambridge was still present there over the weekend.
Weekend reports from the Newburyport/Plum Island area included 2 SNOW
GEESE, 2 WOOD DUCKS, a minimum of 20 BALD EAGLES, 5 ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWKS, 1 KILLDEER, 1 SNOWY OWL, 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS, and 2
GRAY CATBIRDS, and seen in Gloucester were 1 KING EIDER, the EARED
GREBE at Niles Beach in East Gloucester, 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 8 WILD
TURKEYS, 3 BLACK-HEADED GULLS, 3 ICELAND GULLS, 1 GLAUCOUS
GULL, 1 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, and 1 DICKCISSEL.
A report from Westport included 9 TURKEY VULTURES, 28 NORTHERN
PINTAILS, 53 CANVASBACKS, 32 HARLEQUIN DUCKS, 4 RED-
SHOULDERED HAWKS, 6 KILLDEER, 30 CAROLINA WRENS, 1 BROWN
THRASHER, 1 FOX SPARROW, and 7 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS,
and seen at the Cumberland Farm fields in Middleboro were 1 SNOW
GOOSE,
4 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 4 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, 6 AMERICAN
PIPITS, and 3 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS.
Recent reports from Nantucket have included 1 EURASIAN WIGEON, 15
CANVASBACKS, 9 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 3 TURKEY VULTURES, 1
OSPREY, 6 AMERICAN WOODCOCK, 2 LESSER BLACK-BACKED
GULLS, 5 ICELAND GULLS, and 1 GLAUCOUS GULL, at Martha's
Vineyard there were roughly 6500 COMMON EIDERS, 6 TURKEY
VULTURES, 3 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 4 AMERICAN WOODCOCK,
1 BARN OWL, 1 GREAT HORNED OWL, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED
SAPSUCKER, and 1 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, and miscellaneous
reports from the weekend included 4 SNOW GEESE along Scotland
Road in Newbury, 33 HARLEQUIN DUCKS and 2 COMMON RAVENS
in Rockport, 2 CHIPPING SPARROWS in Essex, single BALD EAGLES
in Groton and Natick, a RED-NECKED GREBE in Wayland, a RUBY-
CROWNED KINGLET in Jamaica Plain, a WILSON'S SNIPE at the
Boston Nature Center in Mattapan, 3 NORTHERN HARRIERS and a
TREE SWALLOW at Duxbury Beach, 4 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 1
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, and 2 LONG-EARED OWLS at the Daniel
Webster Sanctuary in Marshfield, a BLACK-HEADED GULL in
Plymouth, an EASTERN PHOEBE in Medfield, 3 AMERICAN
WOODCOCK in Uxbridge, a EURASIAN WIGEON and a GREATER
YELLOWLEGS in Swansea, a KILLDEER in South Dartmouth, and a
HARLEQUIN DUCK and roughly 5000 LONG-TAILED DUCKS in the
Woods Hole section of Falmouth.
