EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -
This is the Voice of Audubon for Monday, March 19.
The TOWNSEND'S WARBLER that has spent most of the winter at 6 Laurel
Street in Cambridge was still present there over the weekend.
A CACKLING GOOSE and a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE were
seen yesterday within a flock of CANADA GEESE off Sconticut Road in
Fairhaven, and other birds seen in Fairhaven included 1 BARROW'S
GOLDEN-
EYE, 1 RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, 2 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS,
17 KILLDEER, and 2 TREE SWALLOWS.
Weekend reports from the Newburyport/Salisbury/Plum Island area
included
30 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 1 BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, 7 NORTHERN
HARRIERS, 3 KILLDEER, 35 PURPLE SANDPIPERS, 1 early RED
PHALAROPE, 3 ICELAND GULLS, 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS, and 2
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, and seen at the Cumberland Farm fields
in Middleboro were 9 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 4 ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWKS, 12 KILLDEER, 6 WILSON'S SNIPE, 30 HORNED LARKS, 3
AMERICAN PIPITS, and 1 VESPER SPARROW.
Recent reports from Nantucket have included 12 GREEN-WINGED TEAL,
22 CANVASBACKS, 14 RUDDY DUCKS, 1 OSPREY, 10 BLACK-
BELLIED PLOVERS, 1 PIPING PLOVER, 11 AMERICAN OYSTER-
CATCHERS, 7 ICELAND GULLS, and 1 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER,
and miscellaneous reports from the weekend included an EASTERN PHOEBE
in Pepperell, a MERLIN, a PIPING PLOVER, and 2 EASTERN PHOEBES at
Duxbury Beach, 3 EASTERN PHOEBES, 5 TREE SWALLOWS, and 200
AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS in Hanson, 18 WILSON'S SNIPE, 1
COMMON RAVEN, and 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS in Halifax, 7 AMERICAN
WOODCOCKS and 2 LONG-EARED OWLS at the Daniel Webster Sanctuary
in Marshfield, 8 AMERICAN WOODCOCKS and 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE
in Falmouth, 2 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS in Mattapoisett, single
OSPREYS in Brewster, Mashpee, and Falmouth, and many migrant FOX
SPARROWS that were forced to feeding stations by the snow storm.
