This is a Rare Bird Alert for Southwestern Ohio (Dayton) for
Tuesday, September 20, 2005, sponsored by The Dayton Audubon
Society.
On September 18th during the Dayton Audubon field trip at Spring
Valley Wildlife Area, 50 species were seen. Among them were SANDHILL
CRANES, SUMMER and SCARLET TANAGER, YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, BLACK
VULTURE, PILEATED WOODPECKER, EASTERN PHOEBE; WHITE-EYED,
YELLOW-THROATED and RED-EYED VIREOS, and the following WARBLERS:
CAPE MAY, TENNESSEE, CHESTNUT-SIDED, YELLOW-THROATED,
BLACK-AND-WHITE, BAY-BREASTED, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, and AMERICAN
REDSTART. COMMON MOORHENS were heard calling in the marsh.
Reported from John Bryan State Park during the period September
15th-17th were BLACKPOLL, CAPE MAY, WILSON'S, HOODED, BLACK-THROATED
BLUE, and BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS; as well as PHILADELPHIA and
BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, SUMMER TANAGER, and
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO.
