Welcome to the Birding Hotline for interior Alaska as of March 20,
2007. Here are some bird sightings to help you celebrate the first day
of spring!
A COMMON RAVEN was seen on March 19 flying across Danby
Road near College Rd. carrying nesting material.
A SNOW BUNTING was seen at 30 mile Chena Hot Springs Road
on March 17.
A GREAT GRAY OWL was sighted on March 14 flying SW over
Farmer's Loop about 1/2 mile from the Steese Hwy.
A BALD EAGLE is being seen along the river near University Ave.
It was most recently reported on March 18.
A DARK-EYED JUNCO is being seen at the ABO feeders. One or
two juncos are also being seen along Love Road off of Chena
Hotsprings Road.
An AMERICAN ROBIN was seen on Cowles St. on March 5.
The LINCOLN'S SPARROW appears to have survived its winter
in Ester. It was most recently reported on March 3.
Upcoming events include:
An Owl listening field trip will take place on March 24 - Meet at the
Creamer's Field Farmhouse at 8 pm to listen to recorded owl calls and
then carpool to hopeful listening sites. A map of locations for listening
will
be available. Dress appropriately to be standing outside for up to 20
minutes
at each stop. For more information, contact Tom Green at 452-6370

The Arctic Audubon Board Meeting will take place on March 29 at 5:30 pm,
in Room 300 of the Natural Science Facility; at UAF
The next Arctic Audubon Program will take place on April 9 at 7:00 Pm
at the Noel Wien Library. Join Tricia Wurtz for a presentation on invasive
plants.
Electronic Recycling will take place on April 21 & 28 from 10 am-4 pm.

The Spring Migration Celebration will take place April 28 from Noon-
4:00 pm. Events will be held at Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl
Refuge,
the Alaska Bird Observatory, and Alaska Public Lands Information Center
(downtown Fairbanks).
A Waterfowl field trip will take place on May 5. Meet at Creamer's Refuge
back by the big barns at 9 am. Bring binoculars, a snack, and rubber boots
if
you have them.
May 12 is a Shorebird field trip. Meet at Creamer's Refuge back by the big
barns at 9 am. Bring binoculars, a snack, and rubber boots if you have
them.
If you plan to record a bird sighting, please include the date and place
where
the bird was seen along with your name and phone number.
