This is Dave DeReamus, for the Eastern PA Birdline, sponsored by the Lehigh
Valley Audubon Society, recorded on March 22nd at 11:00 PM.

There will be a field trip to Green Lane Reservoir on March 31st. Meet at
the Tilghman Square Parking lot, near the Red Robin restaurant, just west of
Route 309 at 8:30 AM. Trip leader will be Mark Boyd.

Sightings include: WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, REDHEAD, ICELAND GULL, CANVASBACK,
LAPLAND LONGSPUR, SNOW BUNTING, LONG-TAILED DUCK, LARK SPARROW, SCOTT'S
ORIOLE, and others.

Sightings from the ALBERT ROAD PONDS, Northampton County included:
Ring-necked Ducks - 150 on 3/22.

Sightings from BUSHKILL TOWNSHIP, Northampton County included:
Rusty Blackbird - 1 on 3/16 and 3/17.

Sightings from LOWER NAZARETH TOWNSHIP, Northampton County included:
At the private Dutch Springs Quarry:
WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS - 4 to 3/17
REDHEADS - 2 on 3/20
ICELAND GULL - 1 on 3/21 (first-winter bird).

Sightings from WILLIAMS TOWNSHIP, Northampton County included:
Osprey - 1 on 3/19.
Also Eastern Phoebe and Savannah Sparrow.

Sightings from EAST ALLEN TOWNSHIP, Northampton County included:
CANVASBACK - 1 on 3/17 to at least 3/20 (at Seiple's farm pond).

LAPLAND LONGSPURS - 2 on 3/17; 4 on 3/18; 7 on 3/20
SNOW BUNTING - 1 on 3/18
Rusty Blackbird - 1 on 3/17 (along South Oaks Road).
Also up to 400 Horned Larks and Savannah Sparrow.

Sightings from BELTZVILLE STATE PARK, Carbon County included:
Tundra Swans - ~30 on 3/17.
Also Bald Eagle.

Sightings from LEASER LAKE, Lehigh County included:
CANVASBACK - 1 on 3/18.

Sightings from HEIDELBERG TOWNSHIP, Lehigh County included:
LAPLAND LONGSPUR - 1 on 3/18 (at the intersection of Church Road and
Mountain Road).

Sightings from the NEW TRIPOLI area, Lehigh County included:
Snow Geese - ~10,000 on 3/14 to 3/16 (in local farm fields).

Sightings from the SCHNECKSVILLE area, Lehigh County included:
Merlin - 1 on 3/18.

Sightings from the FOGELSVILLE QUARRY, Lehigh County included:
LONG-TAILED DUCK - 1 on 3/20.

Sightings from the ALLENTOWN area, Lehigh County included:
At the lake at Dorney Park:
REDHEADS - 2 to at least 3/18.

Double-crested Cormorant - 1 on 3/22

LARK SPARROW - 1 to at least 3/22 (still at the Maple Knoll Farm)
Rusty Blackbirds - 4 on 3/17
American Pipit - 1 on 3/17.

Sightings from LAKE NOCKAMIXON, Bucks County included:
Common Mergansers - 1500 on 3/18
Lesser Black-backed Gulls - 349 on 3/17; ~450 on 3/18; 342 on 3/21 (very
high counts).

Sightings from the RIEGELSVILLE area, Bucks County included:
Ospreys - 2 on 3/20.

Sightings from the OBERLY ROAD area (near Alpha) in nearby New Jersey
included:
LAPLAND LONGSPUR - 1 on 3/21.

Fox Sparrows were seen in exceptional numbers at many feeders this past week
after the winter storm.

Farther afield, a male SCOTT'S ORIOLE has been seen along Kent Drive near
Mechanicsburg, PA from February 19th to at least March 19th. This bird
represents the first record for Pennsylvania and for the entire northeastern
U.S.!
