report
sightings to Jon Fisher at 818-544-5009 or via e-mail to JonF60@hotmail.com
A LONG-TAILED DUCK was seen off Dockweiler State Beach in El Segundo on
March 15. This bird was south of the Imperial Highway entrance. Just north
of here, but still south of Imperial Highway entrance, was an AMERICAN X
BLACK OYSTERCATCHER seen with several Black Oystercatchers on March 16.
Two flocks of SWAINSON'S HAWKS were seen moving through the Pasadena area on
March 20. One group of over 40 birds was seen over the Cal Tech Campus and
what was likely a separate group of 30 birds was over Hahamongna Watershed
Park (Devil's Gate/Oak Grove Park).
The YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continues at the Village Green Condominiums in
Los Angeles. It was last reported on March 21. The bird has been fairly
reliable in an orchid tree in the vicinity of unit 5554. The condos are at
the corner of Rodeo Road and S. LaBrea. This is private property, but
birders are welcome.
The HARRIS'S SPARROW at El Dorado Park in Long Beach was still present as of
March 18. Park near the model airplane field in the northwest part of Area
3 and walk west along the fence on the south side of the Police Training
Academy. When you get to the line of trees, look for the bird in the brush
near the two short yellow posts and larger blue and white sign.
This report is sponsored by the Los Angeles Audubon Society.
