Welcome to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island's bird alert for March 29th,
2007. This report covers the period from March 24th to March 29th, and
will be updated again on April 5th.

At Arcadia Management Area, on the border of Exeter and West Greenwich, a
PILEATED WOODPECKER was reported on the 25th, and seen again on the 27th.
There are probably two birds in the vicinity of the old picnic shelter, along
the yellow trail, near Stepstone Falls, along the Falls River. This area can
be accessed by parking just north of the horse stables on Escoheag Hill Rd,
and following an old paved road to the picnic shelter. Other birds seen here
included: several GOLDEN CROWNED KINGLETS, 1 RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and 2 HAIRY
WOODPCKERS. The first PINE WARBLER of the year was reported on the 25th, at
Browning Mill Pond.

On the 25th, a CACKLING GOOSE was found in the corn stubble field at Roy
Carpenter's Beach. Five GLOSSY IBIS were observed flying over Roy Carpenter's
heading west on the 29th.

At Central Beach in Charlestown, 2 AMERICAN PIPITS were found on the 28th.

At Beavertail Point in Jamestown, 2 RED-NECKED GREBES, 35 HARLEQUIN DUCKS
and 1 LONG-TAILED DUCK on the 25th. Also in Jamestown, a high count of 23
WILSON'S SNIPE were seen at Weedon Lane, along with 1 AMERICAN KESTREL and 1
SAVANNAH SPARROW. At Fort Getty, 1 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER was found on the
25th. On the 29th, 4 GLOSSY IBIS were seen at Marsh Meadows.

At Perry Pond (Firehouse Pond) in Charlestown, 6 NORTHERN SHOVELERS were
seen on the 24th.

A SNOW GOOSE was reported at Hammersmith Farm in Newport this week.

At Trustom Pond NWR, a FOX SPARROW and a BROWN THRASHER were seen again this
week. A PIED-BILLED GREBE and 2 LESSER SCAUP were in the pond.

On the 27th, at Durfee Hill Management Area in Glocester, 1 COMMON RAVEN, 4
AMERICAN WOODCOCK, 1 RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and 2 HOODED MERGANSERS were
recorded.
That same day another COMMON RAVEN was found in Hopkinton.

At Succotash Marsh in Jerusalem, 3 GREAT EGRETS and 11 GREATER YELLOWLEGS
were observed on the 28th.

AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS were reported from Napatree Point and at Gaspee
Point this week.

A belated report of a YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD at a feeder in the Green Hill
section of South Kingston. This bird was only seen for a short time on the
21st.
