A YELLOWLEGS was seen in the Weaselhead area of Glenmore Park in Calgary on Mar 28 by Dave Vernon. It was along the Elbow River east of the pedestrian bridge. This is the first shorebird report of the spring other than KILLDEERS.

The first VARIED THRUSH of the spring migration was observed by Bill Wilson on Mar 25 at the Raptor Watch at Mt. Lorette which is on the west side of Hwy 40 in Kananaskis Country,

A dark phase first year THAYER'S GULL was seen by Terry Korolyk on the rocky point of the Bow River north of the Hwy 22X bridge in east Fish Creek PP in Calgary. The bird was seen on Mar 28 between 10:30-10:45 am, after which it flew southward, probably to the Browning-Ferris Landfill. In the same area there were 30 AMERICAN WIGEONS and 20 NORTHERN PINTAILS.

A PRAIRIE FALCON was seen by Yousif Attia near the Bearspaw Dam in NW Calgary on Mar 27. The species has probably been breeding in that area for the last couple of years.

AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS are moving through the area. Gus Yaki and others observed 6 birds in the Weaselhead area on Mar. 27.

Carol Shields reported 2 BALD EAGLES east of Calgary off Hwy 1 at the Eagle Lake Nursery Road on Mar 22 and 24.

The next scheduled update of the Bird Alert is on Monday Apr 2.

The next meeting of the Nature Calgary Bird Study Group winter program will be
on Wednesday April 4, 2007 at 7:30 PM in Room 211 of the BioSciences Building at
the University of Calgary. Doors open at 7:00 PM.
Our featured speaker will be Mike Mulligan, who will be conducting a Gull
Identification Workshop. Gulls are back in the Calgary area now and several
rarities have been reported. This is a chance to bone up on some of the
identification tricks prior to going out and checking these birds out.
