A bird that was probably a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET was seen in the Millrise subdivision of Calgary at 3:30 p.m on Friday, March 30. The bird was in trees along a pathway behind a church at 148 Ave SW and Millrise Blvd, but it then flew across Millrise Blvd.

A LONG-EARED OWL was seen in the Burnsmead area of Fish Creek PP in Calgary on Thursday, March 29, by Romana Windsteig. It was at the top of an aspen tree near the footbridge across the Bow River. Interestingly, a LONG-EARED OWL was seen in this same area several times in the fall of 2006.

Some large numbers of diving waterfowl have been reported recently in Southern Alberta. Terry Korolyk reported record numbers of GREATER SCAUP in Stavely area on Saturday, March 31. A total of 211 birds were seen by Terry in the north end of Pine Coulee Reservoir adjacent to Willow Creek PP, then he saw 4 males and a female at the north end of Clear Lake, 15 km east of Stavely on Twp Rd 142, with a lone male amongst Lesser Scaup at the south of Clear Lake. Lloyd Bennett observed 26 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS on March 30 on Fincastle Lake east of Taber.

Terry Korolyk observed a GREATER YELLOWLEGS and an AMERICAN AVOCET in the NE corner of Clear lake on March 31, while Lois and Bill Lang saw an AMERICAN AVOCET at Kitsam Reservoir west of Brooks on March 30. Yousif Attia, Jerry Pilny and Alan Fishkin watched a SANDHILL CRANE at the SW corner of Frank Lake 6 kms east of High River on Hwy 23 on March 30.

Lloyd Bennett observed a ROSS'S GOOSE in with SNOW GEESE at Taber Lake on March 28. DOUBLE CRESTED CORMORANT, AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, RUDDY DUCK and CINNAMON TEAL were all reported in Southern Alberta over the weekend along with 4 male EURASIAN WIGEONS. Lois and Bill Lang observed an AMERICAN KESTREL near Kitsam Reservoir on March 31, on March 30 they observed a BREWER'S BLACKBIRD at Kinbrook Island PP north of Brooks and saw 3 DARK-EYED JUNCOS east of Brooks at Tillebrook PP. Carol Shields reported a PEREGRINE FALCON at her farm east of Namaka on Sunday, April 1.
