EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -
This is the Voice of Audubon for Monday, April 2.
The TUNDRA SWAN in East Bridgewater has not been reported since
Friday,
but the TOWNSEND'S WARBLER that over-wintered at 6 Laurel Street in
Cambridge was still present there over the weekend.
In the Newburyport/Plum Island area there were 3 NORTHERN SHOVELERS,
26 NORTHERN PINTAIL, 136 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1200 LONG-TAILED
DUCKS, 2 GREAT EGRETS, 6 OSPREYS, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON, 13
PIPING PLOVERS, 12 KILLDEER, 4 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 4
NORTHERN FLICKERS, 7 EASTERN PHOEBES, 24 TREE SWALLOWS, 3
WINTER WRENS, 55 GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, 3 FIELD
SPARROWS, 185 SONG SPARROWS, 6 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, and 14
PURPLE FINCHES.
Weekend reports from Nantucket included 2 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 1
EURASIAN WIGEON, 30 AMERICAN WIGEON, 25 CANVASBACKS,
16 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 40 AMERICAN COOTS, 8
AMERICAN WOODCOCKS, 1 GLAUCOUS GULL, and 2 PINE WARBLERS,
and seen in Westport were 1 GREAT EGRET, 152 LESSER SCAUP, 156
GREATER SCAUP, 1 HARLEQUIN DUCK, 1 BARROW'S GOLDENEYE,
and 57 OSPREYS.
At the Great Meadows refuge in Concord there were 7 NORTHERN
SHOVELERS, 2 AMERICAN WIGEON, 1 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 2
GADWALL, 170 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 11 COMMON GOLDENEYE,
5 BUFFLEHEAD, 7 HOODED MERGANSERS, 1 PIED-BILLED GREBE,
1 OSPREY, 5 AMERICAN COOTS, and 150 TREE SWALLOWS, and
miscellaneous reports from the weekend included a PACIFIC LOON at
Devereaux Beach in Marblehead, a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE
in the farm fields near the intersection of Barrett's Mill Road and
Route 2
in West Concord, a BLACK VULTURE, 108 WILSON'S SNIPE, and 25
AMERICAN PIPITS in Newbury, the EARED GREBE at Niles Beach in
East Gloucester, roughly 60 HARLEQUIN DUCKS in Rockport, a COMMON
RAVEN in Groveland, 10 AMERICAN WOODCOCK and 4 NORTHERN
ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS in Westborough, a SNOW GOOSE in
Concord, 191 RED-NECKED GREBES, 6 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS,
and a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL in Winthrop, an OSPREY in
Revere, a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER and 2 FOX SPARROWS
at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, an AMERICAN BITTERN and
15 AMERICAN WOODCOCKS at the Boston Nature Center in Mattapan, a
CANVASBACK in Hingham, 2 GREAT EGRETS and 3 PIPING PLOVERS
in Scituate, 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS in Duxbury, a EURASIAN
WIGEON at the Burrage Pond Wildlife Management Area in Hanson, and
80 WILSON'S SNIPE and 3 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS at the
Cumberland Farm fields in Middleboro.
