Thursday April 5, 2007 with reports of WHITE-WINGED DOVE, BREWER'S
BLACKBIRD, LITTLE GULL, seasonal and local reports of interest, and
announcements.

A WHITE-WINGED DOVE has been present Mar 30-Apr 2 in Cape May Point:
call the CMBO Birding Hotline for details.
.
Up to 9 BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS (8 males & a female) were still present
along Freas Rd near the intersection with Supawna Rd in Pennsville,
Salem County through Apr 4 (DeLorme P. 60, H-13). Other birds noted
in Salem County Apr 2 included 2 ROSS'S GEESE and 3 CACKLING GEESE
along Sharptown-Auburn Rd; CATTLE EGRET, 12 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and
200+ WILSON'S SNIPE at Mannington Marsh.

Barnegat Light State Park had 31 HARLEQUIN DUCKS, 25 PURPLE
SANDPIPERS, and a RAZORBILL at the end of the south jetty Apr 1.
.
Sandy Hook sightings this week included 50+ WOOD DUCKS, 150 NORTHERN
GANNETS, 20 GREAT CORMORANTS, and a VESPER SPARROW along the
Fisherman's Trail Mar 31. A free, detailed birding map of Sandy Hook
is available at SHBO: check the sightings log there for daily reports.

A SANDHILL CRANE was an unexpected find at Wolf Hill Park in
Oceanport Mar 29.

Along the North Shore a RED-NECKED GREBE was viewed at Manasquan
Inlet and an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was found at Wreck Pond,
both Apr 1.
.
Spruce Run Reservoir hosted an adult LITTLE GULL among 150
Bonaparte's Gulls Apr 1-2. A RED-NECKED GREBE was detected there Apr
5. A TUNDRA SWAN, 2 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, a first-winter GLAUCOUS
GULL, and ICELAND GULL were noted there Mar 29.

Garret Mountain migrants observed this week included RED-SHOULDERED
HAWK, 2 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, PALM
WARBLER, 13 FOX SPARROWS, and 3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS.

An exceptional flock of 400 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS was tallied at Great
Piece Meadows in Fairfield, Essex County Mar 31-Apr 1.

Allendale Celery Farm reports this week were of 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL,
AMERICAN BITTERN, WILSON'S SNIPE, and 4+ RUSTY BLACKBIRDS.

In Sussex County a TUNDRA SWAN and RED-NECKED GREBE were noted on
Swartswood Lake and a LONG-TAILED DUCK was found on Culver's Lake Apr
1-2. Five RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were noted on Little Swartswood
Lake Apr 2.

The Sandy Hook Migration Watch welcomes visitors and is open to the
public daily, weather permitting. This annual count of migratory
birds is conducted at the North Pond Observation Deck adjacent to
Parking Area K. For more information see www.njaudubon.org/Centers/shbo.

Your help is needed! New Jersey Audubon Society is currently
recruiting volunteers for bird surveys in grassland and Piedmont
areas of the state. Data is used for conservation priorities and
shared with the NJ DEP. Participants must have prior experience in
bird identification and be willing to commit one weekend day in April
for training and 2 to 4 days for surveys. For more information about
grassland surveys contact Mike Bisignano at 908-766-5787 or
