WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

This is the Western Voice of Audubon for Monday April 9, 2007

A male EURASIAN WIGEON has been present at the Great Pond in Hatfield,
and is usually seen from the DPW yard on Cronin Road.Also seen in this
area have been 21 AMERICAN WIGEON, 2 NORTHERN SHOVELERS,a LESSER
SCAUP, 3 PIED-BILLED GREBES, and a HERMIT THRUSH.

A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD came to a feeder in Granby briefly on
Sunday morning, but was not seen again. Instead a YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLER came in the same afternoon.

In Longmeadow on Pondside and West Roads there were 2 NORTHERN
SHOVELERS, 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 140 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 2
NORTHERN PINTAILS, a FISH CROW, 12 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED
SWALLOWS, and 3 PINE WARBLERS.

Seen in Hadley were 2 GADWALL, 5 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 4 BLUE-
WINGED TEAL, 2 AMERICAN WIGEON, 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 42
WILSON’S SNIPE, 90 HORNED LARKS, 42 AMERICAN PIPITS, a RUBY
-CROWNED KINGLET, and 7 FOX SPARROWS.

Two BLACK VULTURES and 50 SNOW GEESE were noted in Amherst, an
AMERICAN BITTERN was seen in Granby, 9 BUFFLEHEAD, 3 COMMON
LOONS, and 51 COMMON RAVENS were at Quabbin Park, a WINTER
WREN was seen in Belchertown, and 10 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED
SWALLOWS in Agawam.

At Turners Falls there were 122 RING-NECKED DUCKS, a CANVASBACK, 4
GREATER SCAUP, a LESSER SCAUP, 6 BUFFLEHEAD, a RUDDY DUCK,
6 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS, 3 COMMON LOONS, 2 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED
SWALLOWS and 3 FOX SPARROWS.

Observed in Southwick were 65 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 3 CANVASBACKS,
GREATER SCAUP, 2 BUFFLEHEAD, 3 COMMON LOONS, 3 PIED-BILLED
GREBE, and 3 WILSON’S SNIPE.

In Northfield there were 100 SNOW GEESE, a BLUE-WINGED TEAL, a
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 5 WILSON’S SNIPE, and 3 RUSTY
BLACKBIRDS.

A COMMON LOON, 3 PIED-BILLED GREBES, and a FOX SPARROW were
seen in Cheshire, 6 FOX SPARROWS and 15 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were
reported in Lenox, and 4 NORTHERN PINTAILS and 47 GREEN-WINGED
TEAL were seen in Pittsfield.
