Welcome to the Birding Hotline for interior Alaska as of April 12, 2007.

The following birds were reported on April 11: Three male RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRDS and 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen foraging on rose
hips and seeds on Lancaster Drive off of Farmer's Loop. A CANADA
GOOSE was seen flying over Eielson AFB. Four MALLARDS, 2
CANVASBACKS, 2 SCAUP, 1 RED-NECKED GREBE, and 1
COMMON GOLDENEYE were on the Eielson AFB Cooling pond.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was singing and being mobbed by Redpolls
along the North side of the Chena River just upstream from Loftus Road
on April 10.

The following birds were reported on April 9: RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCHES were seen at the Musher's Hall, and at the corner of
Chena and Fairbanks Streets. A SLATE-COLORED JUNCO was heard s
singing on Cloudberry, and a NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at Creamer's
Refuge.

A BOREAL OWL was singing on Lancaster Dr. on April 8, and RUSTY
BLACKBIRDS were sighted on Chena Hot Springs Road and at the
intersection of the Steese and Johannsen Highways.

Another NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen on Trianon Drive off Steele Creek
Road on April 7.

An extremely early report of a NORTHERN FLICKER in Hamilton Acres
on was received on March 25th.

The Alaska Bird Observatory will hold a banding station volunteer
orientation
and refresher at the ABO Center for Education & Research on Wednesday,
April 18th at 6 PM for both new and returning volunteers. Learn what's new

Electronic Recycling will take place on April 21 & 28 from 10 am-4 pm.

The Spring Migration Celebration will take place April 28 from Noon-4:00
PM. Events will be held at Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge,
the Alaska Bird Observatory, and Alaska Public Lands Information Center
(downtown Fairbanks).

A Waterfowl field trip will take place on May 5. Meet at Creamer's Refuge
back by the big barns at 9 am. Bring binoculars, a snack, and rubber boots
if
you have them.

May 12 is a Shorebird field trip. Meet at Creamer's Refuge back by the big
