This is Dave DeReamus, for the Eastern PA Birdline, sponsored by the Lehigh
Valley Audubon Society, recorded on April 13th at 5:00 PM.
There will be a field trip to the Bethlehem Boat Club area of the Lehigh
Canal on April 21st. Meet at the Park & Ride Lot at the William Penn
Highway exit of Route 33 at 7:30 AM. I will be leading this trip.
There will also be a Beginner's Bird Walk at Jacobsburg State Park on April
22nd. Meet at the Henry's Woods parking lot at 2:00 PM. Trip leader will
be Dennis Miller.

Sightings from BEAR SWAMP, Northampton County included:
Bald Eagle - 1 on 4/10 ('fly-by').
Sightings from UPPER MOUNT BETHEL TOWNSHIP, Northampton County included:
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - 1 on 4/10 (along School Road).
Also Swamp Sparrow.
Sightings from the MARTINS CREEK PPL POWER PLANT area, Northampton County
included:
Peregrine Falcons - 2 on 4/10.
Sightings from the GREEN POND area, Northampton County included:
Short-billed Dowitcher - 1 on 4/9
ICELAND GULL - 1 on 4/7, 4/9, 4/12, and 4/13 (first-winter bird)
Lesser Black-backed Gulls - ~200 on 4/7; 160 on 4/13.
Sightings from the MONOCACY NATURE CENTER, Northampton County included:
AMERICAN BITTERN - 1 from 4/8 to at least 4/13.
Also Swamp Sparrow.
And, at the nearby Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course: Merlin this past week.

Dark-eyed "Oregon" Junco - 1 reported on 4/6.
Sightings from the PALMERTON area, Carbon County included:
Peregrine Falcon - 1 on 4/10
Vesper Sparrow - 1 back on 4/3.
Sightings from BELTZVILLE STATE PARK, Carbon County included:
Red-breasted Mergansers - 8 on 4/13.
Sightings from the FOGELSVILLE QUARRY, Lehigh County included:
Red-breasted Merganser - 1 on 4/7.
Sightings from the JORDAN CREEK PARKWAY, Lehigh County included:
Black-and-white Warbler - 1 on 4/7.
Also Swamp Sparrow.
Sightings from the CENTER VALLEY area, Lehigh County included:
GLOSSY IBIS - 1 reported on 4/7 (near Wedgewood Golf Club along Limeport
Pike).
Sightings from GREEN LANE RESERVOIR, Montgomery County included:
LONG-TAILED DUCKS - 4 on 4/12.
And, at the nearby town of Red Hill:
LAZULI BUNTING - 1 seen sporadically from 3/4 to at least 4/10 (along St.
Paul's Church Road).
To reach the spot where the bunting has been seen, from the intersection of
Routes 663 and 29 in Pennsburg, take Route 29 south to the 2nd light (6th
St - Red Hill) at Red Hill Ford. Turn left and go about a half-mile to a
stop sign. Turn left onto St. Paul's Church Road and proceed to the bridge
over Macoby Creek. There is parking for 4 vehicles just past the bridge on
the right. PARK COMPLETELY OFF THE ROAD! More parking is available about
an eighth-mile farther up the road in an undeveloped housing area. DO NOT
PARK on residents' lawns. Please bring seed in order to help entice the
bird to stay. This bird represents the 1st record for Montgomery County and
only the 3rd record for Pennsylvania!

American Tree Sparrow - 1 to at least 4/12.
Sightings from PEACE VALLEY PARK, Bucks County included:
RED-NECKED GREBE - 1 seen to at least 4/3
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON - 1 on 4/12
WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS - 6 on 4/12.
Also Double-crested Cormorant.
Sightings from BUCKINGHAM TOWNSHIP, Bucks County included:
LARK SPARROW - 1 to at least 4/10 (still at the Maple Knoll Farm).
Sightings from LAKE NOCKAMIXON, Bucks County included:
Double-crested Cormorants - 188 on 4/12
Great Egret - 1 on 4/12
WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS - 3 on 4/12
LONG-TAILED DUCKS - 7 on 4/12
Red-breasted Mergansers - 2 on 4/12
Lesser Black-backed Gulls - 120 on 4/11; 102 on 4/12
Merlin - 1 on 4/12.
Also Barn Swallow.
Palm Warblers were reported at several sites this past week.
