You have reached the Cape May Birding Hotline, a service of New
Jersey Audubon Society’s Cape May Bird Observatory. This week’s
message was prepared on Sunday April 15, 2007. Highlights this week
include sightings of WHITE-WINGED DOVE, SUMMER TANAGER, NORTHERN
PARULA, BLUE-WINGED TEAL, EASTERN KINGBIRD, FOX SPARROW, CATTLE
EGRET, SHORT-EARED OWL, AMERICAN PIPIT and AMERICAN BITTERN.
Spring arrivals continue daily. Get out, look for some birds and let
us know what you find.
The WHITE-WINGED DOVE was last reported from the intersection area of
Knox Ave. and Pearl Ave. in Cape May Point on 4/9.
Yesterday, 4/14, the first SUMMER TANAGER of the spring was found on
the back side of the red trail at the Cape May Point State Park.
Also yesterday, a spring arrival was a NORTHERN PARULA at the Cape
May Point State Park.
BLUE-WINGED TEAL have been reported with some frequency as of late.
Two birds were seen at the pond on Reed’s Beach Rd. on 4/14. Two
birds were also present on Lake Lily today, 4/15, while five were
present at the Cape May Point State Park on 4/11.
A minimum of two EASTERN KINGBIRDS were seen in Cape May on 4/13.
A couple of late FOX SPARROWS are still in the vicinity. Both birds
were seen on 4/11, one at the Cape May Point State Park and the other
at the Beanery.
A CATTLE EGRET was feeding on the side of Seashore Rd. in Cape May on
4/12.
Lastly, Jakes Landing proved productive on 4/14. An AMERICAN
BITTERN, SHORT-EARED OWL and AMERICAN PIPIT were seen from the end of
the road in the early evening.
ANNOUNCEMENT:

on Rt. 47 in Goshen is open Tuesday- Sunday 9:00- 4:30.
