Welcome to the City of Calgary and CFNS Bird Alert. This Bird Alert was recorded on
Thursday, Sept 22 at 10:10 am. To report a bird sighting, leave a message after the

An immature PARASITIC JAEGER was seen at Lake MacDonald NE of the Calgary Airport on
Tues. Sept 20 at 3:30 pm by Ian Halliday. It flew around the lake a few times and
was last seen headed southward.
Chris Havard and Ray Wershler visited the site on Wed. Sept 21. They did not see the
Jaeger but did observe a SABINE'S GULL . To reach Lake MacDonald, follow 36th St NE,
north of Country Hills Blvd, then drive E on the first E-W road to the old Turbo
Refinery. Look for 2 tall red and white smoke stacks. The lake lies on the W side of
the old refinery.
Another recent report from Chris and Ray; a number of AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS at
Langdon Reservoir the morning of Sept 21. Langdon Res. is just E of Hwy 797 on Hwy
22X.
Jim Davis reported a SHORT-EARED OWL was working one of the fairways at Maple Ridge
Golf Course in Calgary at 7:30 pm Mon. Sept 19. Maple Ridge Golf Course is W of
Deerfoot Tr. between Anderon Rd and Southland Dr.in SW Calgary. On Fri Sept 16 Jim
reported 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS were just N of Langdon Res.
