EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -
This is the Voice of Audubon for Friday, April 27.
A WHITE-FACED IBIS was discovered yesterday within a flock of roughly
60 GLOSSY IBISES just south of the Rowley/Newbury town line, feeding
in a pool off the west side of Route 1A.
The RUFF in Newburyport Harbor was still present there at least as
recently
as Wednesday, and other reports from the Plum Island/Newburyport area
included an AMERICAN BITTERN, 1 GREEN HERON, 1 BALD EAGLE, 2
BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 107 migrating AMERICAN KESTRELS, 5
MERLINS, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON, 1 SORA, 1 VIRGINIA RAIL, 1 KING
RAIL, 1 UPLAND SANDPIPER, 3 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 2 CHIMNEY
SWIFTS, 43 NORTHERN FLICKERS, 2 PURPLE MARTINS, 250 migrating
TREE SWALLOWS, 9 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS, 2
BANK SWALLOWS, 3 CLIFF SWALLOWS, 50 migrating BARN
SWALLOWS, 2 HOUSE WRENS, 1 MARSH WREN, 1 BLUE-GRAY
GNATCATCHER, 1 AMERICAN PIPIT, 6 BROWN THRASHERS, roughly
250 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, 1 BLACK-THROATED GREEN
WARBLER, 140 PALM WARBLERS, 1 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, 1
SCARLET TANAGER, 25 EASTERN TOWHEES, and roughly 750
WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS.
At the Marblehead Neck Sanctuary this week there were 3 WINTER WRENS,
roughly 100 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 75 HERMIT THRUSHES, 1
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, 3 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHES, and
1 HOODED WARBLER, and in the seen in the Fenway section of Boston
were
1 BLUE-HEADED VIREO, 1 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW,
1 WINTER WREN, 20 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 1 BROWN
THRASHER, 35 HERMIT THRUSHES, 1 LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH,
30 CHIPPING SPARROWS, 120 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, 7
SWAMP SPARROWS, 15 SAVANNAH SPARROWS, and 9 EASTERN
TOWHEES.
Recent repots from Nantucket have included 10,000 SURF SCOTER, 6
HARLEQUIN DUCKS, 3 TURKEY VULTURES, 1 WILLET, 1 SHORT-
EARED OWL, 2 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, 55 LESSER BLACK-
BACKED GULLS, 40 ICELAND GULLS, 1 FISH CROW, 2 ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAKS, 10 EASTERN TOWHEES, and 5 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, and
miscellaneous reports this week have included a CASPIAN TERN on Upper
Mystic Lake in Winchester, a BLUE GROSBEAK in Gloucester, a GREAT
CRESTED FLYCATCHER in Byfield, an INDIGO BUNTING in Pepperell, a
WARBLING VIREO, 35 PALM WARBLERS, and roughly 100 YELLOW-
RUMPED WARBLERS in Arlington, a WHITE-EYED VIREO, roughly 50
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, and 1 NORTHERN PARULA at Mount
Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH at Hall's
Pond in Newton, a NORTHERN PARULA, 3 BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS,
and an ORCHARD ORIOLE elsewhere in Newton, a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW
at Franklin Park in Jamaica Plain, a NORTHERN PARULA, a BLACK-AND-
WHITE WARBLER, and a BALTIMORE ORIOLE in Mattapan, single GREEN
HERONS in Quincy and Marion,1 BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER and 2
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS in Hingham, a BLACK
VULTURE in Plymouth, 70 COMMON TERNS and several ROSEATE
TERNS at Bird Island in Buzzards Bay off Marion, and single RUBY-
THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS in Norwell and Brewster.
