morning telephone report, April 27, 2007. The RBA is a service of the
Georgia Ornithological Society. Jeff Sewell is the voice of the RBA.

BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING DUCKS were reported again from the Altamaha
Waterfowl Management Area in McIntosh Co. this week. The ducks were seen
from the observation tower on the east side of US17. They seem to moving
around a bit so if you can't find them from the tower, be sure to check the
west side of US17 all the way to I-95. Also seen there were 43 BLACK-NECKED
STILTS. The water level is low, providing good habitat for shorebirds as
well. Directions: Follow US17 south out of Darien, crossing two bridges
over the Altamaha River. The impoundment ponds and observation tower are on
the left or east side of US17. Additional directions can be found in the
GABO archives or in Giff Beaton's Birding Georgia.

A late SANDHILL CRANE was spotted on April 24th hanging around the Westin
Hotel and Convention Center on Hutchinson Island across the river from
downtown Savannah.

The SWAINSON'S WARBLER continues at the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve in
Dekalb Co. It is seen most often in the thick underbrush on the other side
of Peachtree Creek, which is private property. You might not see it at all,
but it can be identified by it's vocalizations. Directions: From the
I-285/Stone Mountain Freeway (US78) intersection, proceed south on US78
toward Atlanta. Stay in your right lane. Just past the QuickTrip on the
right is Harrington Drive. Turn right on Harrington, and in about a mile
take a right on Wood Trail Ln. This road dead ends into the CSNP,
previously known as the South Peachtree Creek Nature Preserve. Park, and
take the trail on the left to the boardwalk. The bird has been seen there,
and also on the other side of the creek behind the pond.

This park is off of Ashford-Dunwoody road, south of I-285, in Dekalb Co.

The ALDER FLYCATCHER has not been seen again in the last few days at the
Paulk's Pasture Wildlife Management Area. Directions: Take US341 NW out of
Brunswick. After crossing I-95, Paulk's Pasture will be about 8 miles on
the left. Look for the sign on the left, which can be rather hard to see
since it sits parallel to the road. Turn left, entering the WMA. The bird
was last seen in the area around the second swamp, named Sumlin Swamp in
Giff
Beaton's "Birding Georgia".
