On April 22, a LONG-TAILED DUCK was present off Dockweiler State Beach in El
Segundo and a a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was at the Ballona Creek mouth.
The ROCK SANDPIPER at Marina del Rey is still present and is now in
alternate plumage. The bird was observed on April 23 and 24 and was
spending most of its time on the south side of the middle jetty.
A FRANKLIN'S GULL was at the Lancaster Sewer Ponds on April 24. The ponds
are just east of the 14 Freeway on Avenue D. Be sure to ask permission to
bird at the office.
CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS have been regular and easy to find for the past two
weeks at Eaton Canyon in Pasadena. The birds have been in the sage on the
west side of the Nature Center. Take Altadena Drive north from the 210 and
watch for the park entrance on your right just past New York Drive. There
were sightings through April 26.
A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW continued through April 24 at Eaton Canyon. It was
last seen at the feeder behind the Nature Center.
Two CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve on April
22. The birds were with Chipping Sparrows and Lazuli Buntings on the lawns
just southwest of the dirt parking area north of the north entrance to the
wildlife area.
