Welcome to the Birding Hotline for interior Alaska as of May 12, 2007.
Spring migrants are pouring into our area.

The following birds were seen on May 12: GREATER YELLOWLEGS,
WESTERN SANDPIPER, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, two TRUMPETER
SWANS, and a drake REDHEAD were at the Airport float ponds. A
GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL and a WILSON'S WARBLER were at
the South Cushman ponds. AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS were at
Creamer's Refuge, and a NORTHERN SHRIKE and A SHORT-EARED
OWL were at the UAF Botanical Garden.

An OSPREY was seen at the Chena River and Geist Rd. on May 8.

A EURASIAN WIGEON was seen at the Peat Pit on Sheep Creek Road
on May 7.

The following birds were seen on May 6: A mixed flock of 100+
LAPLAND LONGSPURS and AMERICAN PIPITS, 1 MERLIN, and
singing SAVANNAH SPARROWS sighted at 3 Mile Chena Hotsprings
Road. One ARCTIC TERN, 2 HORNED GREBES, 2 BAIRD'S
SANDPIPER, 1 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 2 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS,
2 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 2 LESSER SCAUP, 2 TRUMPETER SWANS,
and 2 BALD EAGLES at the South Cushman ponds. A pair of
RED-NECKED GREBES were at the East Airport Pond and several
were at Smith Lake.

The following birds were seen on May 4: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was
at lower Trianon Dr. and a NORTHERN FLICKER was at Creamer's Field.
A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was singing by the Museum of the
North. A NORTHERN HARRIER, SAY'S PHOEBE, and RUSTY
BLACKBIRD sighted at 37 Mile CHSR.

Upcoming events include:
The Friends of Creamer's Field will be leading a 'Frog Walk' on Sunday,
May 13th. Bring the kids, and the mud boots, and learn about Alaska's
elusive wood frogs. Meet at 10AM at the Creamer's Farmhouse.

ABO biologist, Dr. Susan Sharbaugh will be leading an adult guided
birdathon around Fairbanks on May 19th. Meet at 7 AM at the Creamer's
Farmhouse. The cost is $60 or the equivalent in pledges. Please
pre-register by calling 451-7159.

Sherry Lewis, with the Arctic Audubon Society, will be leading an evening
birdathon walk around Creamer's Field on Wednesday, May 23rd. Meet at
6 PM at the Creamer's Farmhouse. Minimum $5 donation to participate.
Please pre-register by calling 451-7159.

Gail Mayo, president of the Arctic Audubon Society, is leading a guided
birdathon walk to Smith Lake on Saturday, May 26th at 9 AM. Meet at
the UAF ski hut at the west end of West Ridge of the UAF campus.
Minimum $5 to participate. Please pre-register by calling 451-7159.

where the bird was seen along with your name and phone number.
