This is the Saturday, April 21, 2007 Missouri Rare
Bird Alert, a statewide service of the Audubon Society
of Missouri, serving the birding community of Missouri
since 1901. The bird alert is compiled from reports
submitted by ASM members and other birders throughout
the state.

** NOTE: The report includes birds that are listed as
rare, casual, or accidental on the 2003 Annotated
Checklist of Missouri Birds (with revisions in 2004
and 2005). Species that appear in ALL CAPS in the
“Species Mentioned” section are listed as “casual” or
“accidental” and thus require documentation. (Note
that some birds may be considered rare only during a
particular season or in a particular part of the
state.) The Missouri checklist can be accessed at:

ST. LOUIS AREA

WHIMBRELS continue to be seen in the St. Louis area as
recently as Friday, April 13, when Connie Alwood
observed a total of 4. He observed one WHIMBREL in
Ellis Bay at Riverlands MBS (St. Charles Co.) between
Heron Pond and the observation tower, while the other
three were observed from the levee at the area
referred to by local area birders as the “Stonehenge”
parking lot. This area can be reached by heading
southwest on hwy 67 from the Clark Bridge for about a
mile and a half to a gravel parking lot on the right
side of the hwy which is lined with large gray
boulders.

On Sunday, April 14, at Riverlands MBS many birders
were able to enjoy views of 4 HUDSONIAN GODWITS from
the Lincoln Shields side and later in the day from the
levee at the “Stonehenge” parking lot.

Also at Riverlands MBS on Saturday, April 21, Connie
Alwood observed a single WILLET in Ellis Bay near the
dam.

On Saturday, April 7, Joe Eades and Jim Malone found a
male CINNAMON TEAL mixed with Blue-winged Teal in the
flooded woods along Sandy Slough Road near Winfield
Lock and Dam (Lincoln Co.). The bird was last
reported present on Saturday, April 14. To reach this
area, turn left on Sandy Slough Road from the road
leading to the Winfield Lock and Dam. Take Sandy
Slough Road about 0.75 miles to where there is a brown
glass beer bottle on top of a stick.

On Thursday, April 19, Dave Rogles observed a single
WHITE-FACED IBIS at Clarence Cannon NWR (Pike Co.).
