21st. Also seen were AMERICAN BITTERN, both GROSBEAKS, both TANAGERS, a
BROAD-WINGED HAWK, and a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO. Directions: Delorme 40:B-1.

An AMERICAN BITTERN has been seen for a few days at 'Lullwater', The
President's Estate on the campus of Emory University in Dekalb Co. It was
first seen on April 19th and was relocated on April 21st. Directions:
(NOTE: These are old directions.) Driving south from the Toco Hills area on
Clairmont Rd., the VA Hospital will be on the right, and the University
Apartments will be on the left. Turn into the University Apartments and
drive to the end. There is a path there through the woods to the ponds.
(This area might also be accessible from the Emory campus/Clifton Rd. side,
but parking in that area is problematic.) The Bittern was seen hanging out
on a mud flat out in the open.
A field trip to the E.L. Huie Land Application Facility in Clayton Co. on
April 21st produced 4 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 12 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 14 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, 2 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, and 5 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS. One of the
ponds has been drained and is providing good shorebird habitat. The same
field trip group also visited the Newman Wetlands Center, with only a few
migrants noted.
