This is a Rare Bird Alert for Southwestern Ohio (Dayton) for
Monday, April 23, 2007, sponsored by the Dayton Audubon Society.
On April 23rd, seen at Englewood MetroPark were BALTIMORE ORIOLE,
NORTHERN PARULA; PALM, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, and YELLOW-THROATED
ARBLER; BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, GREEN HERON, SOLITARY SANDPIPER;
RUBY-CROWNED and GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET; and ROUGH-LEGGED and
COOPER'S HAWK.
On April 23rd, a first of the season RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD was
observed at a private residence near Garber Rd.
On April 23rd, a first of the season EASTERN KING BIRD was seen at
Spring Valley Wildlife Area.
Near the Haines boat landing of Caesar Creek Lake, OSPREY were
observed on the nesting platform April 22nd. SPOTTED and SOLITARY
SANDPIPERS were seen on the mudflats.
On April 22rd, seen at Spring Valley Wildlife area were WARBLING
VIREO, NORTHERN PARULA; PALM, BLACK-AND-WHITE, YELLOW-THROATED,
YELLOW-RUMPED, and YELLOW WARBLER; and LITTLE BLUE HERON. Observed on
the day before were the same species as well as VIRGINIA RAIL, SORA,
and RED-SHOULDERED HAWK. AMERICAN BITTERN were heard calling.
