EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -

This is the Voice of Audubon for Friday, September 23.

Reports from Newburyport/Plum Island area this week included a LEAST
BITTERN, 3 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 3 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 6
WHIMBREL, 1 MARBLED GODWIT, 10 DUNLIN, 250 BONAPARTE'S
GULLS, and 4 CONNECTICUT WARBLERS, and at the Marblehead Neck
Sanctuary recently there were 14 species of wood warblers including 6
BLACK-THROATED BLUES, 1 BAY-BREASTED, 10 AMERICAN
REDSTARTS, and a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, plus a WHITE-EYED
VIREO, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, BROWN THRASHER, SCARLET
TANAGER, and 25 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS.

Two-day totals of migrant raptors counted over Mt. Wachusett in Princeton
Wednesday and yesterday included 28 OSPREYS, 3 BALD EAGLES, 1
NORTHERN HARRIER, 9 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 1 COOPER'S
HAWK, 1052 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 1 GOLDEN EAGLE, and 7
AMERICAN KESTRELS, and the totals from Mt Watatic in Ashburnham
on Wednesday included 10 OSPREYS, 3 BALD EAGLES, 2 NORTHERN
HARRIERS, 5 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 1 COOPER'S HAWK, 163
BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 3 RED-TAILED HAWKS, 1 AMERICAN
KESTREL, and 4 MERLINS.

A reports from Third Cliff in Scituate included a MERLIN, 315
SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 1 PIPING PLOVER, 3 WHIMBREL, 218
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 21 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 6 WHITE-
RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 2 DUNLIN, and 600 TREE SWALLOWS,
seen in Wayland were 1 CONNECTICUT WARBLER, 4 LINCOLN'S
SPARROWS, 2 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, and 6 INDIGO
BUNTINGS, and miscellaneous reports this week have included a LARK
SPARROW and a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT in Nahant, a LITTLE
BLUE HERON in Gloucester, and CONNECTICUT WARBLERS in
Bradford and at Mass Audubon's Boston Nature Center in Mattapan.
