This is Pinyon Jay with the New Mexico Bird Report for April 30, 2007,

In Sandoval County:
CR and SD did the north end of the Corrales Bosque on April 22 and found a
singing YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, GRAY FLYCATCHER and up to seven MYRTLES. Hike
down the levee road to past the stables, and take the trail into the woods.
Bill West at Cochiti Lake on April 26 saw two adult CASPIAN TERNS, with one
BONAPARTE'S GULL, and 45 WILLETS. MW on April 27 saw six MARBLED GODWITS.
BH on April 28 had four of the gulls and 23 AVOCETS. On April 25 John Kippe
had 100 grebes on the lake, mostly WESTERN, with the BURROWING OWL seen again
along the road to the lake.
On April 29 MW saw a NORTHERN PARULA at his home at Cochiti Lake Village.

In Santa Fe County:
In Cerrillos along the Galisteo Rio JB and AF found a NASHVILLE WARBLER and
a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW. On county rd. 55A near Cerrillos on April 29 AF
had a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER
BW had a singing CAROLINA WREN in Santa Fe in a closed area for parking at
the State Library compound. Do not drive into the state parking area. JB saw
it on April 21. The area is south of the Supreme Court and north of the
round capitol, the bird is seen near a parking lot wall.
JB on April 22 at the abandoned village of White Lakes south of Santa Fe on
White Lakes Road had a MOUNTAIN PLOVER. . On 24c at White Lakes JB had a
FERRUGINOUS HAWK, a Mountain Plover, two CINNAMON TEALS, with a LONG-BILLED
CURLEW over the pond. At a pond north of White Lakes on 285 he saw four
BLUE-WINGED TEALS.
MR on April 26 had a WESTERN SCREECH-OWL on her porch at dusk. JNM on April
27 had a male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK at his Elcorado home. Near Santa Fe on
April 27 CH had a male ROSE-BREASTED Grosbeak in the southwest part of the
county.

In Mora County;
LMo, JoO, and TW had an EASTERN PHOEBE in Watrous April 28.

In Colfax County:
East of Maxwell on NM 193 and A7 DC found five MOUNTAIN PLOVERS and two
LONG-BILLED CURLEWS on April 10.
LMo, JoO, and TW on April 28 at Stubblefield Lake saw an AMERICAN GOLDENEYE,
but no LONG-TAILED DUCK.

In Quay County:
RV at Ute Lake near Logan on April 26 saw five MARBLED GODWITS, 15 WILLETS,
and a PACIFIC LOON. DC at the lakeon April 27 found two COMMON LOONS near
the dam, and near the headquarters two BLUE JAYS and an ORCHARD ORIOLE.

In Cibola County:
At Laguna on April 24 at the RLL home there was a NORTHERN PARULA male and
two BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS.
CJG had an EASTERN MEADOWLARK singing outside the EL Morro NM boundary fence
on April 23.

In Bernalillo County:
At a private home at 705 Camino del Bosque in Albuquerque's North Valley on
April 29 BT had a singing CAROLINA WREN.
BH hiked north of the Alameda Bridge on the east side of the Rio Grande on
April 27 and found a MYRTLE WARBLER with many migrants, two WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWS at mile posts 9.5 to 9.75, a pair of EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, a pair of
BLUE-WINGED TEALS, and on a sandbar four FRANKLIN'S GULLS.
CB on April 28 at the Ojitos Open space back of the San Antonio Church near
Cedar Crest on NM 14 saw a singing RED-EYED VIREO.
BV had a breeding plumaged STILT SANDPIPER at the Tramway Wetlands on April
29. JK had three MARBLED GODWITS there on April 25 with a BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON at the Shady Lakes
Trout Farm on NM 313.
DP on April 22 on the Cedro Creek Nature Trail south of Tijeras at the
second creek crossing found a WINTER WREN and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW. In Hondo
Canyon of the Sandias there was a perched OSPREY.
Later DP had a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW south of Montaņo St. on the east side
of the Rio Grande. On April 23 there was a pair of EASTERN BLUEBIRDS and a
PEREGRINE in the bosque on the west end of Campbell Road. On April 20 he had
a WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE on the parking lot pond at the Rio Grande Nature Center.
PD on April 24 had up to 25 CEDAR WAXWINGS at his home near Sedillo Hill
east of Tijeras.
JK heard two calling FLAMMULATED OWLS on April 19 at Capulin Springs Picnic
Area in the Sandia Mts. east of Albuquerque. HS reported eight GRACE'S
WARBLERS had returned to Armijo Canyon in the Sandias on April 19.

In DeBaca County:
RV at Sumner Lake on April 26 had a PARULA and a NASHVILLE WARBLER below the
dam.
JO on April 28 had a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER at Yeso. CR had two more six
miles west of Yeso.

In Roosevelt County:
RV on April 26 at the Migrant Trap west of Melrose saw a WHITE-EYED VIREO, a
BROAD-WINGED HAWK, and a SWAINSON'S THRUSH. DC at the trap on April 26 saw
a NASHVILLE WARBLER. JO with others on April 28 saw a KENTUCKY WARBLER,
female HERMIT WARBLER, TENNESSEE WARBLER, and OVENBIRD. JP, LL, and WW on April
27 had a HUTTON'S VIREO and a singing CLAY-COLORED SPARROW. MB and NP on
April 29 reported YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, the HERMIT WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED
GREEN WARBLER, a Nashville Warbler, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, the Swainson's
Thrush and up to four NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHES.
CR on April 14-15 in Milnesand reported plenty of LESSER PRAIRIE-CHICKENS.

In Curry County:
JO on April 28 in Clovis at Second and Main Streets saw two CHIMNEY SWIFTS.

In Socorro County:
At Bosque del Apache Refuge near San Antonio JP at the headquarters on April
21 had two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS plus a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER on the
Marsh Loop. JP on April 20 had 19 WILLETS at the Flight Deck. NP and MB on
April 29 had a breeding plumage 8BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER on the seasonal road and a
MARBLED GODWIT at the Flight Deck.
JO at his home at Luis Lopez south of Socorro for the week of April 27 had
an INDIGO BUNTING and an immature male VERMILION FLYCATCHER.

In Chaves County:
JH on Bitter Lake Refuge reported on April 18 a WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE on Unit
15, with two AMERICAN BITTERNS on Unit 16 and one on Unit 7. BURROWING OWLS
were on Unit 7. JH on April 24 saw the White-fronted Goose still present.
On April 20 he had a NASHVILLE WARBLER at headquarters, two WILLETS on Unit 5
and two on Unit 6, and ten on Unit 7. Also there were four CATTLE EGRETS on
Unit 6, with many shorebirds seen. A PEREGRINE has been seen occasionally
through April 24. On April 25 he had a pair of HOODED MERGANSERS and a COMMON
GOLDENEYE. On April 26 he saw a PALM WARBLER just north of the homes at
headquarters. MB and NP on April 22 saw the three bitterns, two Stilt
Sandpipers, and a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER.
At NMMI in Roswell JP and crew saw a MISSISSIPPI KITE on April 26.

JP, WW, and LL had a good LESSER PRAIRIE CHICKEN show with 22 present north
of the Waldrop Road Rest (40 miles east of Roswell) on the Mescalero Sands.

In Catron County:
JHa on her ranch near Datil on April 19 had her first GRACE'S WARBLER with a
singing DUSKY FLYCATCHER on April 22.

In Sierra County:
At Percha Dam SP on April 21 JP has a NASHVILLE WARBLER at the south end of
the woods south of the fence, a singing BELL'S VIREO, about five
WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, and a CASSIN'S VIREO. CL on April 23 had a GRAY FLYCATCHER and
three of the sparrows. JNM On April 24 had a TOWNSEND'S WARBLER and two
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS there.
At North Monticello Point of Elephant Butte Lake on April 21 JP found two
LONG-BILLED CURLEWS and a CALIFORNIA GULL.

In Grant County:
RS on April 17 had three GRAY FLYCATCHERS in
STEEPLE Rock Canyon with one in Carlisle Canyon on April 16.
On Gold Gulch Road on Jack's Peak in the Burro Mts. on April 7 RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCHES and RED CROSSBILLS were seen.

In Hidalgo County:
At Rodeo on April 14 JP, LL, and WW had a COMMON GROUND-DOVE and two INCA
DOVES. PDH on April 21 had a BARN OWL in Rodeo.
DB reported at the Lordsburg sewage ponds on April 16 70
WHITE-FACED IBIS and three CATTLE EGRETS. On April 13 the JP crew saw a
PEREGRINE, a MARBLED GODWIT, and a SANDERLING.
At Dunagan's Crossing south of Animas JP, LL, and WW had a HARRIS'S HAWK
present on April 13.
JB in Guadalupe Canyon had a ZONE-TAIL HAWK, at the ranch a GRAY HAWK with a
male COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD seen. JP, LL, and WW April 14 had the gray hawk
and three BROAD-BILLED HUMMINGBIRDS with several GRAY FLYCATCHERS.
In Clanton Canyon on April 14 JP, LL, and WW found a DUSKY-CAPPED
FLYCATCHER.
County Hwy. 1 south of Animas crosses the Diamond A (Gray) Ranch. Because
of events with thoughtless birders, one must not go off the road.

In Luna County:
LM reports that Katfish Kove is no longer open to birders.

In Doņa Ana County:
JZ and MS on April 22 had a male PALM WARBLER on the east side of the Rio
Grande near Rincon on the levee. CL on April 23 had the warbler, 19 WILLETS, a
WESTERN GREBE, a BROWN THRASHER, GRAY FLYCATCHER, and a late SWAMP SPARROW.
On April 24 MS had a glimpse of a probable GROOVE-BILLED ANI. It was not
re-found.
At Camp Robledo near Leasburg SP on April 23 CL had a CASSIN'S VIREO and two
BELL'S VIREOS. MS and JZ had a TENNESSEE WARBLER on April 22.
A birding spot is the Corralitos plays west of Las Cruces. It is to be
emphasized that one must ask for permission at the ranch before birding there.
JN on April 14 found a MARBLED GODWIT. JZ and MS had the godwit April 16.
On the 16th there was a SNOWY PLOVER..
CL on April 28 had a Zone-tailed Hawk adult at the intersection of NM 185
and Hope Rd. between markers 10 and 11 south of Radium Springs. It was seen
south of their home by JZ and MS on April 29.
CL on April 20 at Randal's Pool near the Sunland Racetrack had a NASHVILLE
WARBLER.
DG on April 20 at the Dripping Springs east of Las Cruces had a singing male
HUTTON'S VIREO and a male TOWNSEND'S WARBLER.
CL had a CASSIN'S VIREO on April 15 at Mesilla Park. On April 17 JN at the
arroyo on McDowell had a male BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER and the vireo. CL had
the warbler later in the day. DG in this area on April 21 had a SWAINSON'S
THRUSH.
At the Mesilla Valley Bosque Park JN on April 14 found a MYRTLE WARBLER. DG
on April 12 had a BLACK HAWK. CBr on April 21 had a HOUSE WREN and the
AMERICAN BITTERN was still present.
DG in the area around Mesilla Dam on April 17 had a HOODED ORIOLE and a
DUSKY FLYCATCHER. Near the Dam DG on April 21 had two CASSIN'S VIREOS, and the
flycatcher, and two GREEN HERONS.
CL on the Pine Tree Trail at Aguirre Springs State Park on April 27-28
staying overnight had a calling WHIPPOORWILL with five HUTTON'S VIREOS on the
`+trail and a GRAY VIREO near the trailhead.
MS and JZ on April 27 at the Pearson's Tree Farm near Anthony saw three male
INDIGO BUNTINGS, a TOWNSEND'S WARBLER, CEDAR WAXWINGS, two BRONZED COWBIRDS,
and an immature BLACK HAWK (ohoto). The farm is private property, but the
edge is on Haasville Road. They had a WILLET at the Corralitos Playa, a female
CANVASBACK and several LESSER SCAUP at the Border Playa with EARED GREBES at
both. The scaup were also on Burn Lake.
At her home near San Miguel Hope woodward saw 24 LESSER NIGHTHAWKS on April
26. She had a male BRONZED COWBIRD on April 29 with a PHAINOPEPLA nearby.

In Otero County:
At the Holloman Lakes CL on April 18 found few shorebirds and high water
levels.
At the Holloman Lakes near Alamogordo the "no access" signs are for hunters
only. The entire shore is open to birding. Due to vandalism the sightings
list and box have been removed.

In Eddy County:
At Rattlesnake Springs MB and NP on April 22 saw two BROAD-WINGED HAWKS and
a GRAY HAWK (near the pond), a NASHVILLE WARBLER, CASSIN'S VIREO, and an
early SWAINSON'S THRUSH at the adjacent Washington Ranch. JP, LL, and WW on April
27 the adult Gray Hawk. It was still there April 28 with a HARRIS'S HAWK,
BROWN THRASHER, and two INDIGO BUNTINGS.

At Avalon Lake on April 22 MB and NP had two WILLETS and a SNOWY PLOVER at
Brantley Lake. At Brantley Lake on April 37 JP, LL, and WW had a MARBLED
GODWIT, SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, and two BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS.
RN on April 23 saw three CHIMNEY SWIFTS at his home in Carlsbad.
SW found CLIFF and CAVE SWALLOWS at an apparent new nesting site on US 295
1.1 miles north of the road to Sitting Bull Falls under a culvert.

Central Audubon in Albuquerque has Thursday field trips. For details call

May 10 to Manzano Pond and the Quarai Ruins with Bonnie Long (379-1985); May 17
and 18 is their Birdathon with a contribution; May 24 is to Socorro with
Rebecca Gracey at 242-3821; May 31 to Villanueva State Park on the Pecos Rio
with the Boettchers at 281-6726.

Saturday May 5 is the annual NMOS Meeting in Carlsbad at the Washington
Ranch south of Carlsbad Caverns. The evening speaker will be Steve West on Cave
Swallows. He will hold banding demonstrations on May 3, 4, and 6. For
