____ DUPAGE COUNTY ______________________________________

At Songbird Slough on July 15, birds seen include two HENSLOW'S
SPARROWS, BOBOLINKS, four CASPIAN TERNS, MARSH WRENS, and other regulars.

A SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was seen at the 83rd Street Fluddle at Greene
Valley on July 18th along with other common shorebirds.

A RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was seen in a backyard in Glen Ellyn on July 17.

At least 14 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen on July 21 at Eola Road
Marsh.

Near Waterfall Glen FP, two OSPREYS (adult and juv.) were seen along the
DesPlaines River from the overlook about 1 mile east of the SW locked
gate entrance at Bluff Rd just off Lemont Rd and about 2 miles southwest
of the Cass Ave/Bluff Rd entrance.

A VEERY feeding young was seen at West DuPage Woods on July 22.

____ KANE COUNTY _______________________________________

CHIMNEY SWIFTS have been seen flying around a chimney at the old
building on Cedar Avenue between 9th Ave. and 11th Ave. in St. Charles.
At 9pm on July 21st, around a hundred swifts were seen flying around
the chimney.

A BALD EAGLE was seen on the evening of July 12th at the Elgin quarries
on West Bartlett Road about a 1/2 mile west of Gifford Road.

At Aurora West FP on July 21, birds seen include BELL'S VIREO,
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, and HENSLOW'S SPARROW.

Some shorebirds are beginning to be seen along the Fox River from the
bridge between Jon J. Duerr / Blackhawk FP and Tekakwita Woods FP.
Shorebirds seen include PECTORAL SANDPIPER, SOLITARY SANDPIPER, LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, LEAST SANDPIPER, and SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER.

____ FERMILAB SIGHTINGS ________________________________

Shorebirds are showing up in good numbers this week at the south and
west end of Lake Law and at the west end of A.E. Sea. On July 31, an
AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was seen at Lake Law. Other shorebirds included
STILT SANDPIPERS, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, LEAST SANDPIPERS, GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, SPOTTED, and
KILLDEER. I also received a report of two BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS that
were seen briefly at Lake Law and along the channel that runs from Lake
Law back towards Swenson Road pond.

____ UPCOMING FIELD TRIPS ______________________________

Thursday evening, August 4, 6:30 p.m. Whalon Lake F.P. (Will Co.).
Another bring-your-own picnic and shorebirding outing. Bring your own
supper, and we will look for shore birds while eating picnic at the
pavilion. Good location for scopes. Whalon Lake, near Bolingbrook, is on
the south side of Royce Rd., 1-2 miles west of IL-53 (past the Quarries)
but east of Washington Blvd. There is no light at the intersection of
IL-53 and Royce; it is ca. 1/4 mile north of Boughton Rd.

Saturday, August 6, 8:00 a.m. Fermilab.
Meet at the Red Barn, which is located at the first stop sign (Sauk Rd.)
after entering the lab from IL-59. At this time; one may enter either at
the Pine St. entrance off Kirk Rd. or Batavia Rd. off IL-59 after
showing ID and stating purpose of visit ("birdwatching"). In the event
of an increase in the security level, check with the leaders.

Saturday, August 13, 8:00 a.m. McKee Marsh F.P.
This trip will be for possible shorebirds and grassland birds. Meet in
the parking lot on the north side of Mack Rd, located between Winfield
Rd. and IL-59 between Warrenville and Winfield.
