This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon Society for
Wednesday April 25, 2007 with reports of YELLOW RAIL, SANDHILL CRANE,
RUFF, LITTLE GULL, seasonal and local reports of interest, and
announcements.

A YELLOW RAIL was heard at Jakes Landing Road this week: call the
CMBO Hotline for details.
.
Sandy Hook sightings this week included 4 LITTLE BLUE HERONS, a LEAST
BITTERN at north pond, SORA at Plum Island and 2 at north pond, up to
17 RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS and 18 Merlins at the Migration Watch, 1-3
LITTLE GULLS off Bayberry Beach lot, a first-year ICELAND GULL,
LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL at the salt pond, 200+ NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED
SWALLOWS, BANK SWALLOW, CLIFF SWALLOW, HOODED WARBLER, a first-year
male SUMMER TANAGER along Raccoon Alley, and VESPER SPARROW at K-
lot. A free, detailed birding map of Sandy Hook is available at

A first-year GLAUCOUS GULL was found at the Belford ferry dock Apr 23.
.
The GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE continued through Apr 23 at Shelter
Cove in Toms River.

The RUFF at Pedricktown marsh was seen through Apr 22. The best time
to look for the bird is a rising tide.

Hawkins Road in Burlington County hosted several LOUISIANA
WATERTHRUSH, 3 HOODED WARBLERS, and 2 PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS.
.
At the end of Pleasant Plains Rd in Great Swamp NWR AMERICAN BITTERN
and VIRGINIA RAIL were found this week.

Garret Mountain reports this week included 10+ WINTER WRENS, PRAIRIE
WARBLER, and LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH.
.
The Allendale Celery Farm had an early BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, 2
ORCHARD ORIOLES, and RUSTY BLACKBIRD Apr 24.
.
Liberty State Park birds noted this week were SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 60+
SAVANNAH SPARROWS, and EASTERN MEADOWLARK.
.
Hunterdon County sightings this week included CLIFF SWALLOW and
YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER at Bull’s Island Apr 22.
.
Sussex County reports included a good hawk flight at Milbrook Gap Apr
22 including 303 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, PEREGRINE, 6 BALD EAGLES, and 7
OSPREYS. At Layton/Walpack WMA YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER and an early
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER were noted Apr 22. A SANDHILL CRANE was noted at
Wallkill River NWR’s Liberty Loop trail Apr 21.
