Welcome to the City of Calgary and CFNS Bird Alert. This Bird Alert was
recorded on Thursday April 26 at 10:15am. To report a bird sighting, call

A HUDSONIAN GODWIT was spotted east of Irricana on April 25. The bird --
seen by Phil Cram, Mike Mulligan and Milt Spitzer -- was on a slough on the
south side of Twp Rd 273, 1.4km west of Range Rd 260. This is the first
report of the species this Spring season.
There were 2 SOLITARY SANDPIPER reports this week. Ian Halladay observed a
bird on the flats in the west end of Glenmore Reservoir (Calgary) on April
24, and the following day Dwight Knapik found one at the Calgary Zoo's
private breeding ranch south of Calgary. IH saw 16 BLACK-NECKED STILTS at
Glenmore Reservoir on April 24, and PC, MM and MS reported 30 to 40 stilts
were in the sloughs southeast of Irricana on April 25. They also noted two
WILSON'S SNIPE, and Dwight found two more at the Zoo ranch.
MS observed several RED-NAPED SAPSUCKERS in the Jumpingpound Recreation Area
off Hwy 68 west of Calgary on April 24. He also reported BREWER'S BLACKBIRD,
2 NORTHERN PYGMY-OWLS and a NORTHERN SHRIKE in the same area. PC, MM and MS
noted Brewer's in the Irricana area the following day.
Terry Korolyk observed a lone male RED-BREASTED MERGANSER on Lake Bonavista
in SE Calgary on April 24, and the next day he saw a NORTHERN GOSHAWK
hunting in Votier's Flats in Fish Creek PP. Tanya Barkowskis reported a
PILEATED WOODPECKER and 2 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS in Carburn Park in SE
Calgary on April 23. MM found several male CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPURS
displaying on the prairie east of Brooks on April 22.
The next scheduled update of the Bird Alert is on Monday April 30.
BIRD STUDY GROUP - Meets the first Wednesday of the month, September - May
at 7:30 pm, Room 211, BioSciences Building, University of Calgary. The next

road. His place has a blue sign with the address - 104043, Range Road 160.
