This is the Chicago Audubon Society bird report for Tuesday, May 1,
2007 at 5:00pm.
Many migrants arrived in the Chicago area the last week.
Recent observations from Montrose include a SAGE THRASHER on April
21st, a BARN OWL on April 23rd, 14 AVOCETS and five WILLETS on April
27th, a BALD EAGLE on the 29th, and a WHITE-WINGED DOVE on April
30th. Seen at Montrose today were PEREGRINE; MERLIN; LEAST
FLYCATCHER; HOUSE, SEDGE, and MARSH WRENS; seven species of warblers;
ORCHARD and BALTIMORE ORIOLES; and CLAY-COLORED and LE CONTE'S SPARROWS.
A LE CONTE'S SPARROW and HOODED WARBLER were at the Bill Jarvis Bird
Sanctuary today.
Another LE CONTE'S SPARROW was seen today at the Northwestern
University Landfill. Three AVOCETS and two WILLETS were also there
on the 29th.
A HENSLOW'S SPARROW was at the Lincoln Park Zoo's South Pond today.
CERULEAN and BLACKPOLL WARBLERS were seen today at Dan Wright Woods.
Fifteen species of warblers, four species of vireos, and a
HUMMINGBIRD were seen today at Elsen's Hill.
A WILSON'S PHALAROPE was at the Tri-County Forest Preserve today, and
a GOLDEN EAGLE was seen there yesterday.
A LARK SPARROW was seen yesterday at Northerly Island.
A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was seen April 29th at Calvary Cemetery in
Evanston, and an UPLAND SANDPIPER was there today.
A PILEATED WOODPECKER was seen April 28th near the Little Red
Schoolhouse, and another PILEATED was seen April 22nd at Teason's Woods.
YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS were seen April 25th at Lake Forest College
and at Hemlock Hill in the Morton Arboretum.
A RED-THROATED LOON and several SURF SCOTERS were seen April 29th at
Illinois Beach State Park.
Both LAUGHING and FRANKLIN'S GULLS were seen April 27th along the
Waukegan Beach.
