Welcome to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island's bird alert for June 14th,
2007. This report covers the period from June 8th to June 14th. If there
are enough sightings next week, the report will be updated on the 21st.

With the migration just about over for the spring, reports have been slim
this past week, however there were a few notable sightings.

Although known to breed in Rhode Island, the LEAST BITTERN is always
difficult to find. However on the 12th, a bird was seen at Trustom Pond NWR. It
was moving in the phragmities at the end of the Otter Point trail, on the north
west side of the pond.

A CASPIAN TERN was found resting on the mudflat at the Sachuest Salt Marsh
in Middletown on the 10th.

An ALDER FLYCATCHER was calling from the edge of the Beattie model airplane
field along Division Road in West Greenwich on the 12th. The bird was seen
and heard early the next day also. Other birds in the area included: 1
INDIGO BUNTING, 2 FIELD SPARROWS and 1 PRAIRE WARBLER.

On the 9th, near the pond behind Central Beach in Charlestown, 3
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS and a BROWN THRASHER.

A PEREGRINE FALCON was observed on the Jamestown bridge on the 8th.

Three COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen over the East side of Providence on the
11th.

At the Frances Carter Nature Preserve in Charlestown, several INDIGO
BUNTINGS, PRAIRE WARBLERS and a BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO were recorded on the 12th.

Another BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was seen along Kate Randall Road in Foster on
the 12th, and in North Kingston, a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was reported.

Finally, a report from Napatree Point in Westerly on the 11th included: 2
COMMON LOONS, 4 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 1 SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 4 AMERICAN
OYSTERCATCHERS, 1 SPOTTED SANDPIPER, 5 RUDDY TURNSTONES, 145 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS, 10 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS and 1 ROSEATE TERN.

That's all for this week, thank you for calling and good birding!
