Welcome to Pennsylvania Audubon's and the Patriot-News' Birdline. This
Birdline covers sightings made primarily during the week prior to
Thursday, June 14, 2007.
CAMBRIA COUNTY:
An AMERICAN COOT was found on private property during a breeding bird
check of block 74A16 in Croyle Township on June 7 (Name withheld as per
request).
CENTRE COUNTY:
There were 2 COMMON TERNS at Bald Eagle State Park on June 12 (AM). A
group of 6 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were present on June 13 (GG).
LANCASTER COUNTY:
Among the birds observed at Conejohela Flats on June 6 there were 3
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 2 RED KNOTS, 19 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS and
PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS (DH). A first summer's FRANKLIN'S GULL was found
just south of Avocet Point on June 9 and 10 along with 1 WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPER and a BLACK TERN (EW).
There were 4 SNOWY EGRETS at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area on
June 8 and 9 just past Stop #1 on the east side of Hopeland Road (BC,
JT, AMT).
The ash basin at Holtwood Environmental Center yielded 1 BLUE GROSBEAK
on June 13 (JSm).
MCKEAN and ELK COUNTIES:
An evening owling on June 9 for the breeding bird atlas found NORTHERN
SAW-WHET OWLS at 6 out of 7 stops in 6 blocks (JF).
SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY:
VIRGINIA RAIL chicks were observed near Lindaville on June 9 (JS).
YORK COUNTY:
An albanistic RED-TAILED HAWK was seen on June 8 perched on a
transmission tower in a power line cut on Paper Mill Road just northwest
of Peach Bottom Power Plant (TR).
