Highlights of reports received June 14 through June 21 from the
Niagara Frontier Region include YELLOW-THR. WARBLER, BLACKPOLL
WARBLER, "BREWSTER'S WARBLER" and BUFFLEHEAD.
June 17 in Allegany State Park and nearby Sunfish Road, a total of
20 warbler species, highlighted by YELLOW-THR. WARBLER in the park
maintenance area, with BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, NORTHERN PARULA, YELLOW-R.
WARBLER, and PINE WARBLER. Also, YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO and several
CLIFF SWALLOWS. Outside the park, on Sunfish Road near Red House, 17
warbler species included CERULEAN WARBLER, CANADA WARBLER and LA.
WATERTHRUSH, plus WINTER WREN, ACADIAN FLYCATCHER, and three families
of RUFFED GROUSE.
From the Lake Ontario Plains, an exceptionally late BLACKPOLL
WARBLER on June 18 in the Town of Wilson. And in Yates, a CERULEAN
WARBLER on Miller Road.
June 16 in Royalton Ravine Park, near Gasport in the Niagara County,
a "BREWSTER'S WARBLER", with HOODED WARBLER and WOOD THRUSH.
Another exceptional June record - a male BUFFLEHEAD on the 16th at
the Batavia Waste Water Plant, along with AMERICAN WIGEON, MALLARD,
NORTHERN SHOVELER, RING-NECKED DUCK, LESSER SCAUP, HOODED MERGANSER,
RUDDY DUCK, a family of COMMON MOORHENS, AMERICAN COOT and 41
D.-CREST. CORMORANTS.
From the Iroquois Refuge and Tonawanda Area - at Woods Marsh,
REDHEAD with three young, and 27 BLACK TERNS including at least two
young. At Kumpf Marsh next to Cayuga Pool, 4 GREAT EGRETS, AMERICAN
WIGEON and 6 GREEN-WINGED TEALS. And on the Kanyoo Trail, YELLOW-THR.
VIREO and 7 VEERYS.
Other reports this week - in the Lake Ontario Plains Towns of
Hartland and Somerset, several BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS. Also in Somerset,
off Barker Park, 2 breeding plumage COMMON LOONS and a CASPIAN TERN.
And in Hamburg, on Old Lakeshore Road, a cherry tree attracted
RED-BELLIED WDPKR., AMERICAN ROBIN, GRAY CATBIRD and several BALTIMORE
ORIOLES.
