This is a summary of reports from the Northwestern
California Bird Alert , sponsored by the City of Arcata, Redwood
Region
Audubon Society, and generous support from local birders. Most
birds reported are in Humboldt County unless otherwise noted.
Birds in caps under the "birds mentioned" section have less than 50
(plus
or minus 5) records of occurrence in Northwestern California as
defined in Stan Harris's " Northwestern California Birds" (3rd
edition, 2005). California Bird Records Committee review species

In DEL NORTE COUNTY the CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was still present (for its
5th day) off of Enderts Beach Road, south of Crescent City (Alan Barron).
Also in DEL NORTE, the GLAUCOUS GULL continued in the Crescent City Harbor
(Kerry Ross, Daryl Coldren).
A GLAUCOUS GULL flew over observers at the Mad River Spit (Kerry Ross, Daryl
Coldren).
Two EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen near the ponds along Widow White
Creek, in McKinleyville (Gary Bloomfield).

Of local seasonal interest in Arcata, a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH came to a
feeder off of Heather Lane (Rob Fowler).

A second-year singing male AMERICAN REDSTART was found along Enderts Beach
Road in DEL NORTE COUNTY. The bird can be found by parking in the small lot
just opposite of a large row of Monterey Cypresses. Walk down the trail to
the beach and then head north 200 feet or so and look around the willows
there (Alan Barron).

A MAGNOLIA WARBLER, first found on the 9th of June, was still present along
Westgate Avenue and Patrick's Point Drive, north of Trinidad. The singin
NORTHERN PARULA, also first found on the 9th, was still present along
Patrick's Point Drive, north of Seawood. A female or second-year male
AMERICAN REDSTART was at the Orick Dump (Ken Irwin).

Highlights from the Rio Dell Breeding Bird Survey included an AMERICAN
DIPPER in the Eel River below Blue Slide Road, 1 mile west of Rio Dell. Five
GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were seen between 1.5-3.5 miles west of the junction of
Monument Road and Bear River Ridge Road (Chet Ogan).
A second-year male AMERICAN REDSTART was found at the northeast corner of
the Log Pond at the Arcata Marsh (Elias Elias).
19 June

The AMERICAN REDSTART was still present at the same location along Enderts
Beach Road, in DEL NORTE COUNTY (Rob Fowler).
