You have reached the Cape May Birding Hotline, a service of New Jersey
Audubon Society’s Cape May Bird Observatory. This week’s message was
prepared on Monday June 18, 2007. Highlights this week include
sightings of MISSISSIPPI KITE, WILSON’S STORM-PETREL, HORNED GREBE,
ROSEATE TERN, GULL-BILLED TERN, BROWN PELICAN, GREAT CORMORANT,
AMERICAN AVOCET, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, NORTHERN PARULA and WHITE-
THROATED SPARROW.

A MISSISSIPPI KITE continues to be seen off and on in Cape May this
week. The last report of the bird was on 6/12, seen over the Cape
May Point State Park.

WILSON’S STORM-PETRELS are being reported with frequency in the
waters surrounding Cape May. Yesterday, 6/17, two were seen from the
Cape May Point State Park.

As of 6/13, the West Cape May impoundments continued to play host to
a HORNED GREBE.

ROSEATE TERNS are being seen with some regularity in Cape May. Most
reliably the birds are seen two to three at a time feeding in the
rips off Cape May Point (6/14.) On 6/13 one bird was seen from the
Back Bay boat trip on the Skimmer.

Two GULL-BILLED TERNS were observed at the second plover pond that
the Cape May Point State Park, today 6/18.

On 6/16, four BROWN PELICANS were loafing on a sand bar in Hereford
Inlet.

The immature GREAT CORMORANT continues to be seen in Hereford Inlet.

Three AMERICAN AVOCETS were seen at section C-11 in the Brigantine
NWR on 6/13. There has been no report of these birds since the
initial sighting.

A very unusual find for the summer was a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH at the
Cape May Point State Park, today 6/18.

A male NORTHERN PARULA was seen at the Cape May Point State Park on
6/16.

Lastly, the WHITE-THROATED SPARROW continues as of 6/15 at the feeder
on Seagrove Ave.



ANNOUNCEMENT:

Both CMBO centers (Northwood and Center for Research and Education)
are now observing new hours of operation. Both centers are now
opening at 9:30 a.m.

CMBO Bookstore hours are as follows; Northwood Center on East Lake
Drive in Cape May Point; summer hours, Wednesday- Monday 9:30-4:30.
The Northwood Center will be closed on Tuesdays. The Center for
Research and Education on Rt. 47 in Goshen is open Tuesday- Sunday
9:30- 4:30. At least one center will be open everyday to serve our
members needs.
