This is the Santa Barbara Audubon Society's rare bird report being recorded
on Friday, July 20 at 3:30 p.m. If you have a rare bird sighting to report,
call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. For those of you who are getting the
transcript on the Internet, the rare bird alert number for Santa Barbara is
(805) 964-8240.

The REDDISH EGRET that had been in the Santa Barbara/Goleta area for several
days had moved to the Carpinteria Salt Marsh on Tuesday. We have no later
report. Be aware that all of the salt marsh is private property and No
Trespassing is strongly enforced. You can see parts of the salt marsh from a
viewing area at the end of Ash Avenue in Carpinteria.

Up to seven LEAST TERNS were still at the mouth of Devereux Slough
yesterday, and good numbers of shorebirds are starting to show up. Two
LESSER YELLOWLEGS were here on Tuesday.

Two ROSS'S GEESE remain in the pond at the Rancho Goleta Mobile Home Park at
the end of Ward Drive in Goleta.

PURPLE MARTINS have returned to Nojoqui Falls Park, where they appear to be
nesting.

On Kinevan Road, off of Highway 154, a CASSIN'S VIREO was singing yesterday,
near the horse corral.

Highlights at Cachuma Lake this week included BALD EAGLES, three WOOD DUCKS,
a PEREGRINE FALCON and WILD TURKEYS.

In the North County, at Waller Park in Santa Maria, both the CACKLING GOOSE
and the ROSS'S GOOSE remain in the front pond.

That is all the bird news for now, but, again, if you have a rare sighting
to report, call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. Good birding in Santa Barbara
County.
