On the Upper Texas Coast large numbers of
SWALLOW-TAILED KITES (Elanoides forficatus) are being
seen between Dayton and Liberty on Hwy 90. Shorebirds
are beginning to come in good numbers at Bolivar
Flats. Fall passerine migration is beginning with
reports of EMPIDONAX FLYCATCHERS, many ORCHARD ORIOLES
(Iceturus spurious) and a few early warblers coming
in. A female SCARLET TANGER (Piranga olivacea) was
reported from Quintana on July 29.

In the Rio Grande Valley, YELLOW-GREEN VIREOS (Vivrens
vireo) are still being seen at Sabal Palms Audubon
Sanctuary in Brownsville. The World Birding Center
pelagic trip on July 29 had 6 species of pelagic
birds: CORY’S SHEARWATER (Calonectris diomedea),
AUDUBON’S SHEARWATER (Puffinus lherminieri),
BAND-RUMPED STORM-PETREL (Oceanodroma castro),
PARASITIC JAEGER (Stercorarius parasiticus), BRIDLED
TERN (Sterna anaethetus) and SOOTY TERN (Sterna
fuscata).

Thank you for calling the Texas Rare Bird Alert.
