This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, September 29. Please

A SABINE'S GULL was at the Lancaster Sewer Ponds on September 26. The ponds
are on Avenue D just east of the 14 Freeway. Be sure to check in at the
office before birding.

Two PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were on the LA River on September 24. One bird was
near the Rosecrans crossing and the other was at Del Amo. A BAIRD'S
SANDPIPER was near the Long Beach crossing across from DeForest Park in Long
Beach.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was along the San Gabriel River in Pico Rivera on
September 25. The bird was south of Whittier Blvd, about 200 yards below
Dunlap Crossing.

A VERMILION FLYCATCHER was seen briefly at Debs Park in Montecito Heights on
September 22.

A VIRGINIA'S WARBLER was at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Preserve on
September 27. The bird was seen from the path bordering the west side of
Haskell Creek about 300 yards south of the first bridge.

A TENNESSEE WARBLER was at Exposition Park in Los Angeles on September 28.
The bird was in the flowering coral trees at the east end of the rose
garden.

Big Sycamore Canyon in southeastern Ventura County produced a
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER on September 23.

At the Laguna Road tamarisks on the Oxnard Plain, a BLACKPOLL WARBLER was
present on September 25. The tamarisks are on Laguna Road just south of
Pleasant Valley Road.

Four CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS appeared this past week. One was at Hansen Dam
in Sylmar at the south end of the willow forest, another was at Peck Road
Water Conservation Area in Arcadia in the north end willows, a third was in
South Long Beach and the fourth and most recent bird was in sycamores near
the northwest corner of Ed Vincent Park in Inglewood on September 29.

A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was at Hansen Dam on September 24. The bird was
found around the small pond where the Lopez Channel empties into the
northwest corner of the willow forest. This area can be reached by entering
Hansen Dam at Dronfield and parking in the lower parking area.

At the Wood Road crossing of Revolon Slough on the Oxnard Plain in Ventura
County, a BOBOLINK was seen on September 23.
