This is the Michigan Statewide Bird Report for Thursday, October 13th, 2005.

In BARAGA and HOUGHTON COUNTIES—the previously reported LARK BUNTING* has
been seen through October 8th, at Arnhiem Sloughs.

MONROE COUNTY—A LARK SPARROW* was reported October 6th near the corner of
Dean Road and Douglas Roads. Specifically, it was seen in a field to the
east of the Bedford Soccer Stadium. The bird has not been relocated since.
On October 10th, a 1st-winter LAUGHING GULL was found on the mudflat at the
Allen’s Cove area of Luna Pier. This bird was not relocated.

WAYNE COUNTY-October 9th, the Southeast Michigan Raptor Research Group
tallied 43,280 TURKEY VUTURES, setting a new single day record for this
species in the United States. On October 11th, a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW
became the 25,000th bird banded by the Rouge River Bird Observatory on the
campus of the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

SAINT CLAIR COUNTY—On October 7th, a 1st-year LAUGHING GULL was seen off
Port Huron.

SAINT JOSEPH COUNTY—On October 9th, an immature GOLDEN EAGLE was seen above
the dam, on the Saint Joseph River at Constantine.

MARQUETTE COUNTY- 1 HARRIS’S SPARROW was seen at Presque Isle Park on
October 7th.

CHIPPEWA COUNTY--On October 6th, a GREAT GRAY OWL was spotted in Tahquamenon
Falls State Park, atop a Black Spruce tree, in a bog on the north side of
M-123. This seems to be, or is becoming, a traditional place to find this
species. A HARRIS'S SPARROW remained at the Whitefish Point Bird Observatory
feeders until October 7th, and a DICKCISSEL until October 9th. A BOREAL OWL
was banded on the night of October 11th.
