TUFTED PUFFIN
ARCTIC TERN
Monday, August 1
2 TUFTED PUFFINS were seen at Rocky Point Bird Observatory in
Metchosin. Also there were 5 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, a SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHER, 6 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, and a SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPER among 100 LEAST and WESTERN SANDPIPERS. These
were among the almost 90 species seen for the day.
A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was seen at the end of Bowker Avenue
in Oak Bay.
6 PURPLE MARTINS were seen at the intersection of Lochside Trail and
Lohbrunner Road in Saanich.
Sunday, July 31
A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen overhead at the Inner Harbour in
Victoria.
70 RHINOCEROS AUKLETS were seen from the Sidney Island Ferry.
Two SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS and a
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and 14 LEAST SANDPIPERS were seen at
Viaduct Flats in Saanich.
Saturday, July 30
Out of town in the Nanaimo area, 2 ARCTIC TERNS were seen from the
ferry as it was leaving Duke Point.
2 HEERMANN'S GULLS were seen from Holland Point in Beacon Hill Park,
Victoria.
A WANDERING TATTLER was seen again from the Ogden Point Breakwater,
also in Victoria.
At Blenkinsop Lake in Saanich, at the south end, there were 5 WARBLING
VIREOS, 2 CASSIN'S VIREOS, 1 BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER,
and 1 YELLOW WARBLER.
Friday, July 29
No sightings reported.
Thursday, July 28
In the Duncan area, 2 juvenile BULLOCK'S ORIOLES were seen by
the golf driving range near Somenos Marsh.
A BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was seen at Cowichan Bay in the Duncan area.
It was seen along with many peeps from the south dike. Also there were
many RING-BILLED GULLS, a CASPIAN TERN, and a good number of
juvenile PURPLE MARTINS.
