A PACIFIC LOON was reported by Kellner at Chatfield State Park on the Douglas
County side on June 18. The bird is not on the reservoir. To reach the bird,
hike upstream from Kingfisher Bridge on the east side of the river. Hike about
1.4 miles, go past the first gravel pond and to the second larger gravel pond
with a few islands in it. The basic-plumaged loon was on this pond. The loon
was seen again on August 5.

A GREEN HERON and first-year GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL were reported by Beltz
at Cherry Creek State Park, Arapahoe County, on August 5. The heron was at 12
mile beaver pond and the gull was at the southeast inlet sand bar.

Three immature GREEN HERONS were reported by Garrett at Cottonwood Hollow
Natural Area, Fort Collins, Larimer County, on August 7. Cottonwood Hollow is off
East Prospect west of I-25. A CASPIAN TERN was reported by Smith at the
Strauss Cabin Natural Area in Fort Collins, Larimer County, on August 6. The
entrance to Strauss Cabin is on East Prospect just west of I-25.

At Bonny Reservoir, Yuma County, Leukering reported a juvenile SNOWY PLOVER,
adult male BALTIMORE ORIOLE, first-year molting PINE WARBLER, and BELL'S VIREO
on August 6. The plover was near the southwest corner of the water (which is
reached from the east end of the 2-track road along the south side of the
reservoir). The oriole was along the 2-track road on the south side. The warbler
and vireo were at Foster Grove Campground (NW part of park).

A SNOWY PLOVER was reported by Moss at Neenoshe Reservoir, Kiowa County. No
date given.

The female WHITE-EARED HUMMINGBIRD that was reported by Allerton in June in
the Durango area, La Plata County, is still in the neighborhood. She has been
visiting Susan's yard regularly since July 22. If you would like to try to see
the bird please contact Susan Allerton at sallerton AT earthlink.net or
970-247-0296. Please call between 8:00 A.M. and 10:00 P.M. Susan will continue to
allow visits through Wednesday, August 10. For those who plan to go to Durango
there is highway construction on many of the roads. There is major construction
on Wolf Creek Pass. The pass is closed from 10:00 P.M. to 5:00 A.M. Monday
through Thursday and during the day there can be delays of up to 45 minutes. If
you plan to stay overnight in the Durango area, it is wise to make motel
reservations since it is high tourist season there.

An EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE was reported by Linfield along the North Shanahan Trail
in Boulder, Boulder County, on July 31. The bird was heard again on August 1
through 3. Directions: From the intersection of Broadway and Table Mesa Drive
in Boulder, go west on Table Mesa Drive for about 0.7 miles. Turn south on
Lehigh. Go 0.9 miles and park just before the road splits. There is a small trail
sign on the right. Walk along this trail for about 1/4 mile (it merges with
the North Shanahan Trail after 100-200 yards). The bird was heard left or south
of the trail. A useful landmark is a rock on the left side of the trail,
about 8 feet across, with a deep pothole in the center of its rounded top.

A male NORTHERN CARDINAL was reported by Halverstadt in Louviers, Douglas
County, July 31 to August 2. The bird has been seen and heard in the First Street
neighborhood of Louviers.

Welchester Tree Park on our way to Wild Bird Center afterwards for refreshments.
