Welcome to the Birding Hotline for interior Alaska as of August 9.

Three GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS, two COMMON LOONS,
and about 100 HERRING GULLS were seen at Lake View
Terrace on August 4:

A NORTHERN WHEATEAR was at the float plane pond on
August 5:

A PEREGRINE FALCON was on theRadio Fairbanks Tower
along College Rd on Aug 6:

A NORTHERN HARRIER is being seen daily in the fields at
Creamer's Refuge.

A pair of AMERICAN KESTRELS were seen at the hay fields at
3 miles Chena Hotsprings Road on Saturday, August 6.

A MERLIN was seen at the ABO Banding Station at Creamer's
Refuge on August 5.

A WESTERN WOOD PEWEE was singing at Lancaster Drive
on July 27. Another bird was at Creamer's Refuge on August 5.

There is an unusual report of four BOREAL OWL chicks still in
an owl box on private land near Chena Hot Springs Resort on
August 2.

A SPOTTED SANDPIPER was seen at the front pond at
Creamer's Refuge on July 30.

Upcoming events include:
A Family Bird Banding Breakfast. Will take place from 8:30 -
10:30 AM. on August 13. Enjoy a light breakfast while learning
about bird banding and the Alaska Bird Observatory's songbird
migration research at Creamer's Refuge. Then enjoy a short hike
to the ABO banding station to observe Alaskan songbirds up close,
interact with wildlife biologists, and see ABO's research first-hand.
Space is limited and pre-registration is required by August 11.

Saturday Mornings with an Artist at Creamer's will take place
at 7:00 AM: Enjoy a cup of coffee at the Creamer's Visitor Center
with local artists and learn about their work. August 13 will feature:
Betsy Chronic: and August 20 will be DeeDee Hammond

Preschool Nature Discovery Time: "Birds Birds Birds", a
program for3-5 year olds, will take place at the Creamer's
Farmhouse on August 16. This program will feature an hour of
stories and related activities. Snacks will be provided. This is
brought to you by the Friends of Creamer's Field

Mark your calendars! The 8th Annual Sandhill Crane Festival
will take place from August 19-22 and will feature artist and
activist Robert Bateman as the keynote speaker. The event will
include lectures, seminars and field trips at Creamer's Wildlife
Refuge and at Wedgewood Resort. For more information, contact

On August 25, at 6:30 PM, join Dr. Susan Sharbaugh, ABO's senior
biologist, for an evening stroll around Creamer's Refuge to look
for birds and other wildlife. The walk will begin and end at ABO's
Center for Education & Research.

place where the bird was seen along with your name and phone
number.
