This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for November 11, 2005 covering the
period November 4 - 10, 2005.



A rare sighting of a flock of BLACK GUILLEMOTS took place on the west
shore of Grand Isle on November 8th as the birds flew south past an
observant birder.



A RED-THROATED LOON was seen off Grand Isle on November 8th.



Several HORNED GREBES were observed near Button Bay on November 5th, 8
were sighted in South Hero on November 4th and 10 were seen from Charlotte
Town Beach on the 6th of November. A RED-NECKED GREBE was sighted at the
Tri-town Water District Plant on November 5th, 13 were seen from Grand
Isle on the 7th and one on the 8th.



A ROSS'S GOOSE was seen at the Goose Viewing Area at Dead Creek on
November 5th. GADWALLS, AMERICAN WIGEONS, AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, MALLARDS,
NORTHERN SHOVELERS, NORTHERN PINTAILS and GREEN-WINGED TEAL were all seen
at the Brilyea Access at Dead Creek this week. Four LESSER SCAUP were
observed in South Hero on November 4th and 12 were seen in Grand Isle on
the 8th. A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was sighted from Grand Isle on the 8th,
and 14 BLACK SCOTERS were observed on the 4th. Six LONG-TAILED DUCKS were
seen from Grand Isle on the 7th of November, 2 BUFFLEHEAD on the 8th, 8
COMMON GOLDENEYE on the 6th and 11 on the 7th. A flock of COMMON
GOLDENEYES was seen at the Tri-town Water District Plant on the 5th.
HOODED MERGANSERS were sighted in South Hero, Grand Isle and near the
Ledyard Bridge in Norwich this week.



Nine AMERICAN COOTS were seen at Dead Creek on the 7th of
November.



A lingering AMERICAN WOODCOCK was spotted in Woodstock on
November 7th. The BLACK-TAILED GULL was still present at Charlotte Town
Beach as recently as mid-day on the 10th of November.



Two HORNED LARKS were sighted in Woodstock on
November 7th.



CAROLINA WRENS were seen and often heard in Essex, Burlington
and Brandon this week.



A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was spotted in Burlington on November
8th.



Two AMERICAN PIPITS were seen in Quechee at Lake Pinneo on
November 4th.



AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS were observed in Quechee, Grand Isle and
South Newfane this week.



SNOW BUNTINGS were sighted in Quechee, along Route 17 near Dead
Creek, in Pittsford and at Charlotte Town Beach this week.
