This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, August 11. Sightings

A LEAST BITTERN was seen briefly at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in
Van Nuys on August 10. The bird was in the reeds at the southeast end of
the lake.

A RHINOCEROS AUKLET was seen from Point Dume in Malibu on August 6. Also
present near the point was a WHITE-WINGED DOVE.

Three SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were reported on August 6. One was along the LA
River in Van Nuys just below Burbank Blvd. Another was along the LA River
in Long Beach just south of the Wardlow crossing. The third was at Malibu
Lagoon.

On August 9, an adult PECTORAL SANDPIPER was found along the LA River just
south of Willow Street.

A BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was found along the LA River on August 6. This bird was
about 350 yards north of the Rosecrans crossing.

Two SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS turned up on August 6. The birds were at the
Santa Clara River Estuary in Ventura and at the Piute Ponds on Edwards Air
Force Base (please note that these ponds are off-limits to the general
public).

A LUCY'S WARBLER was at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach on August 9.
